I remember him from when I was newly injured in 1988 and we were both enrolled in the FES bike program at Mount Sinai. It is very sobering when you see people injured at the same time as you, or sometimes even after you starting to die. I private pay for my home healthcare and try to compensate my...

    replied to stopping colonoscopy?
    in Care
My rectal sphincter is quite tight. Even with the tremendous fluid buildup in the colon from the prep, essentially none came out without digital intervention. All it took was simple insertion however and it sounded like the dumping of a bucket to the toilet. Nonetheless, it took literally, between the...

    stopping colonoscopy?

I'm 59, almost 33 years post SCI. Just had my fourth colonoscopy in about 17 years. Had minor polyps removed during two of them. This time everything was fine. However, after the recent experience I think I may just never have another one. The prep, although it was done properly, was just too difficult...

  • I was once told that I needed a tilt actuator motor for my Permobil chair, which is my backup. I promptly paid it, which cost about $1200 a few years back. I did it because it was making a creaking and groaning sound. After the new actuator was put in and I tried the chair it made the same noise....

  • My biggest fear, which may have to be dealt with soon, is the interviewing process. I private hire and typically advertise in several local newspapers and weekly news magazines. It is not uncommon to get 50 phone calls. From that I can perhaps narrow it down to 5-10 candidates, who will need to be...

    in Care
For some reason my left kidney seems predisposed to developing stones. Not large, in the 5 to 6 mm range. They are nonobstructing, although they get right up to the size range of where they can be a problem. I get kidney ultrasounds twice a year and the stones periodically disappear and then reappear....

    in Care
Try a Coude catheter. If you have better success with that then you may have issues with your anatomy where the urethra goes through the prostate.I have terrible problems with insertion about three quarters of the way in, probably right at the location where my urethra takes a sharp turn and a regular...

replied to Flu Vaccine for 2020?
    in Care
I'm quite sure a Covid vaccine won't be available by the fall, which is when one takes the flu vaccine. And I haven't heard anything about them combining the two. Best to proceed with your annual flu vaccine as usual, and hopefully that is the practice. I typically take mine in September, before...
