  • The first time I was opened up I was stitched up tight and was healed in 3-4 weeks. This time they only used staples on the outside and when the surgeon took them out it wasn't fully healed from top to bottom and the incision popped open within a few days. This same surgeon that I went back to didn't...

I only have one doctor left that is close enough for my 31 year old van. The other surgeon is about an hour away but I don't trust the old Econoline past 15-20 miles.

  • First it was just the common dangers of surgery. Second, when I had emergency surgery in May he thinks I may have some internal scar tissue or potential for a herniated stoma (I think it was) and where they did surgery, some of the incision opened up and I still have some superficial wounds that haven't...

Elective Colostomy information from SCI centers

Are there any papers, cases or studies done by professionals that might be useful in convincing a surgeon who won't or is hesitant to do elective colostomies? The doctor that I went to on Wednesday gave me a flat-out no and I'm going to see the junior surgeon from that office in two weeks.

I didn't write my response letter to the hospital yet, as I wanted to wait and see how my colostomy consultation went. Last year I went to Dr. "A" and discussed a colostomy and he was was on board but since I couldn't get him to use an ostomy nurse for placement and I wanted to get vaccinated...

  • Maybe instead of stain, you coat it with a strong glue and then apply sand. A couple coats and it will strengthen the ramp and provide grip.

I'm going to write a serious letter to the hospital... its the one that I was in after my wreck 31 years ago. In less than 4 weeks, I had 3 pressure sores, I had lost about 60 pounds (I was 6'6" and 185lbs, skinny already), I had almost nonexistent protein levels in my blood and a blood clot in...

The only problem with suing is that they are only local hospital that is equipped for major surgeries/trauma. I went to a smaller hospital last Monday to discuss getting a colostomy from the only other colorectal in the area and because of my previous abdominal surgeries that were done, she was worried...

Could one of the SCI-Nurses give me a suggestion on how to respond?

I finally got my response letter from the hospital today and to me it screams "perfunctory standardized response." I would appreciate any feedback on how I should respond to this letter if at all.

I'm going to up my Linzess after I have my colostomy surgery. I figure that it will give me a bit of diarrhea until I adjust to it and I would rather it go into a bag than into a puddle beneath me.

What supplements can you take on a daily or weekly schedule that won't cause your body problems...

I had not used any more of my sorbitol sugar until the other day. I had about a total of 4-5 teaspoons over the course of a day after one more day later I took a bisacodyl pill and a magic bullet. What followed was the equivalent of 4 days normal bowel program results. It was all solid and did not...
