    Hi Bill,

Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

So it is interesting to hear you are irrigating (rather than instilling...) with saline. Why are you doing that? I recall KLD or one of the other nurses saying at some point that irrigating was less common these days....

It's good you are thinking about this. Low sodium gets more common as you get older, and it can cause problems if you don't keep an eye on it.

My Dad has had borderline sodium for years. It is probably due to a combination of medication side effects, age related changes, drinking a...

Thanks so much for sharing these details.

I have been having a hard time keeping up with all of my Dad's care these days. He has a lot of medical things going on these days, separate from his UTIs/skin issues. The time everything takes is always longer than I think and I feel like we...

Well, actually we don't have a plan anymore, so I appreciate your rec. Were you developing any sort of skin issues before starting to use this cover? I'm not sure if it will be thick enough for him.

Every day my fingers are crossed when he gets on the toilet that he wont tear his skin...

Thanks for sharing your extensive experience.

When you reconnected after instillation, did you reconnect to the same drainage bag (leg bag?) that he was using during the day? Or did you have a clean one available that you switched to instead? If you reconnected to the previously used...

Did you guys do instillations sometimes with the SPC? How did you do it? DId you use a clamp?...

Thanks for sharing what you guys do / use.

So my Dad tried the ROHO toilet cushion (rounded, 2 pieces) attached on top to his Activaid elevated toilet seat cushion. It didn't work well..... The fingers are too short and he sorta bottomed out and rubbed on the Activaid cushion below. ...

Appreciate your comments. Yes, you are lucky you don't have a sore now, and are smart to experiment. I just ordered some hairspray!

That Allegro site reviewer also mentioned briefly the problem my Dad has..... that the dimensions that are critical are not the overall dimensions of the...

Could I ask a couple more questions about the plug vs. clamp etc...? I've ordered some of the clamps. Thanks for the link.

The reason my Dad likes the plug is that he can put the plugged foley back into the stat-lock and then change position / stand up / do a bed bath etc... while he's...

Sorry to hear that. Has it broken through the skin yet? What toilet cushion do you use? Do you put anything on your skin?

I failed to mention a couple things that my Dad has been trying to protect the skin/sore. When it first started it seemed that a simple barrier cream or one of those...

ChesBay - Thank you so much for this useful information.

The cushion you linked to is exactly the one my Dad is using now on top of his square Activaid elevated toilet/commode/shower seat (the #101 static chair - not a rolling one). Which Activaid did you use? One you could roll into a...

I think part of his problem is that he needs to scoot forward on the cushion for cleaning from behind. When he scoots forward, he is no longer sitting uniformly on the cushion and this may put too much pressure on his front upper legs on the cushion, causing it to collapse more? And he often spends...

Which ROHO? Over what kind of bath bench? Does the bath bench have a cut out?

skin issues and the toilet seat

Hoping to find some tricks/ideas to keep your skin safe on the toilet when you need a lot of cushion for comfort/pain.

Has anyone tried the ROHO toilet seat cushion on top of a square shaped elevated toilet seat? Does that work, or is it an unstable mess? Or has anyone had a custom ROHO...

Interesting idea. That is an old school clamp! Wouldn't we have the same issue of needing to resterilize the clamp between uses?

Typically, after using a plug, I wash it with a mild soap, then rinse and soak in 10% bleach before storing in it's original, similarly cleaned cap. We wipe...

Thanks KLD. We'll try a plug, let it sit for awhile, and then reconnect.

Just wanted to ask again, for anyone using a foley (urethera or SPC) and doing instillations..... do you ever just disconnect the leg bag from the foley, instill, sit there for 10 minutes, then reconnect to the same "dirty" leg bag? Maybe.... clean the tip of the dirty bag with ETOH, and...
