We also try to keep a bunch on hand for my Dad too. We also use them for some other things (instillations) so recently I actually broke down and bought a lifetime supply for $20 at

I really appreciate your ideas. Thanks.

Fortunately, his bowels are moving very well. He has tried Enemeez and Enemeez plus several times and they just don't work for him. But you are right, that it is always a good idea to go back and retry things because sometimes things change over...

I'm sorry you have gotten into such a hard place.

My Dad also gets a lot of UTIs with resistant bugs. My Dad also got a gentamicin resistant UTI while doing Gent instillations. For awhile he was using silver foleys to see if they helped his frequency of UTIs but they didn't at the time....

You do not know if a bug in a culture is resistant or sensitive to a drug when the drug is not explicitly named. In general, they must test that drug to be sure.

As the RN said, every antibiotic concentration is different for what determines whether the bug is sensitive to it or not. Do...

We recently tried putting a foam dressing on it, but find that it doesn't stay on very well. It is very hard to "tape" it, as tape doesn't stick well to the foam. And the area we are taping it to is irregularly shaped the dressings are often a little too stiff or too thick and don't contour...

Sure, it is always useful to have this stuff revisited/organized.

I did buy some ellura, and certainly alone it was not sufficient. And quite pricey.

I wish my Dad's sediment was something benign, but it is clearly mixed with a lot of bacteria. The odor is so distinctive...

So today my Dad tried bowels in bed, on his left side. It was .... messy. I tried to cover the wound with a piece of Telfa held on by paper tape over Silvadene (antibiotic). And it got covered in soft stool and was totally contaminated. Since the wound is on his left cheek very close to the midline/anus,...

So far his doctor has highly insisted not to put an adherent dressing on it. There are so many folds in the skin in this area that it couldn't adhere properly and would cause problems. I am hopeful that when the wound care nurse will see it remotely tomorrow they may help. If nocmt, I will upload...

    Appreciate all of your input.

My Dad's recent UTIs, respiratory infections and debilitation from inactivity since the lock down have made him more vulnerable to skin changes/injury. He is also in his late 70's with a lot of atrophy of his butt muscle and with aging and weight loss from...

Thanks so much for sharing all of this. It really helps.

I would be pleased to hear any other details you can share.

I agree that my Dad's right sided butt pain... which is awful.... is always better when he is in bed, on his left side. He will not be able to lie flat on...

I do really appreciate your input. Thanks for this! Honestly, I think he would appreciate the saved time, no more pain from hemorrhoids etc... Even he brought this up himself, because I have told him how many of you guys have had experiences. So this may be something discussed long term.... especially...

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. He hasn't been seen by a doctor in person since February. No pressure mapping (has never done this). Sits mostly on ROHOs not in his wheelchair, but also lies on his side in bed, and on his tummy on a mat. He does change the surfaces where he sits many times...

Fair enough. About 8 years ago my Dad did have a recurrent UTI that returned shortly after initial, full length treatment. His doctor at the time treated him with an extended Abx course of about 1 month, and it went away.

Right now we're trying to avoid antibiotics. My Dad has sores...

He had an E.Coli UTI in May and was treated with a short course of fosfomycin (oral). In June, soon after his E Coli UTI, he had a Citrobacter Koseri UTI and was treated with a full course of Nitrofurantoin. The E coli, which was nitrofurantoin resistant, returned not long afterwards. But we did...

    I appreciate your thoughts.

His bowel program was taking 40-60 minutes, sometimes longer. He's been trying to speed things up, and now it is closer to 30-40 minutes. His bowels are actually moving pretty well, but he is very slow with the clean-up and sometimes there are multiple episodes...
