Have medicare and I need a secondary

I'm on medicare and I was taken off my ex wifes insurance when I started on AARP medicare complete. I want to get a colostimy bag to solve my bowel issues but the cost appears to kill me. Is there a secondary insurance anybody recommends or should what I have cover me. I was told that I need to pay the 20% not covered by medicare and the medicare complete is just for drugs. Can anybody help?

I have Mutual of Omaha and they are pretty good about picking up the balance of what medicare doesn't cover.

I ask this because normally you have a 6 month time period to sign up for a medigap policy.

You need to call Medicare and get some dates unless you already know them.

I have a Medicare Advantage plan through Blue Cross Blue Shield which pays pretty good instead of Medicare plus the Medigap plan. In some states, you can't even get medigap plans on disability. So you really need to call Medicare immediately and get some information to figure out your options. You should have done this as soon as you divorced or found out your coverage through your wife was changing. You may have to wait until next December called the open enrollment period to change now.

I did call before my divorce and during the enrollment period. I'm on a program thats called AARP/Medicare Complete provided by United Healthcare. They have paid everything so far better than my ex's policy did for meds and Dr visits. I was just knocked down when they told me my portion of the surgery was 20%. I guess I'll keep investigating. Thanks for the info.

If you chose that plan then you can't change until the next open enrollment period then which is December 14, 2012. Is that a Medicare Advantage Plan? If it is, then you cannot have a Medigap plan with an Advantage plan. You can only have a medigap plan with original Medicare. If you did not enroll in a Medigap plan (I think) as soon as you disenrolled in your wife's plan...the premiums increase.
