Which VA? Are you in touch with the National Service Officer for the Paralyzed Veterans of America for your area? Are you a PVA member?
(KLD)The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

a couple of months ago, i sent my application to the national headquarters at the direction of the pva service officer in seattle. the letter that my new provider at the va mention to them in her letter that i was not considered paralized. to her paralized to her is severly and perminantly. the pva turned my application down. they didnt let me know or the service officer in seattle know. i called the national office and found out and we had a long conversation. the lady i talked to would not let me speak to the lady who is in charge. after the call, i e-mailed them and asked to have my dd-214, providers letter and a copy of my application returned to me. have not heard from them. about a week after my new provider saw me, the va scheduled me for a custom wheelchair. i had only met her that one time and she did no exam of me. i never asked for them to furnish the chair. the one i have, i had to furnish it myself when i fiirst got out of the hospital.

Get back to the NSO you worked with or who is working at the Seattle SCI Center. I know that in my area, the NSOs were not going into the office during the worst of the COVID pandemic, so a lot of things got missed. It should be better now. Ask to get a different provider (ideally a neurologist) to certify your SCI/D. It does not have to be complete to qualify you for either PVA membership or VA SCI care. (KLD)

as advise from the u of w and others, when i first found out that the team that i had belong to at the va clinic in missoula montana had all quit, including the doctor. i requested that when they get a replacement, hopefully they could find a doctor with some sci experience or training. about a month or 2 later when i met thhe new doctor, that is the first thing she talked about. she said that when she saw my request, she checked and found out that i was the only sci patient enrolled with the va in the whole state. i must tell you. my use of this key board at times is not easy.

i went back thru my notes and found where i had tried to contact a fellow named mathew who was in charge of the nw chapter of pva at the time no luck. then i talked a few times with lisa at nw pva and she helped me and encouraged me to apply. later on, it was her who found out that the national office of pva had turned me down. the woman at the national office in charce is christi hillmen. she is allways unavailable. i wrote a e-mail to the national office and requested they return my paperwork i had sent them, but never heard back. they have the only copy i had from the va dr.and i need it. everyone has directed me to join the pva and they would be able to help me in the correct direction. even to get on there forum might help. i just dont know.

ive tried to explain to you before that the va in montana does not quite meet the standards that are to be met normally. here is one example. the va in montana recently hired a advanced practical nurse as the head of the neurology department. she is the only employee of the department in the entire state va system. each time i try to insist on specialty care, it is as if . sorry, my hands are giving up.

her name is kayleigh moldenhaver ft. harrison va hospital is the location of the neurology office. vahcs/ro 436-mt which is located in helena. her degree is from carroll college, which happens to be just down the street from the va hospital. this is the montana va health care system, not UC Davis

it does not give her degree which means ?

I found her on-line. She is a gerontology nurse practitioner, an advanced practice nurse (APRN). It does not list her actual degrees, but has NP after her name. Each nurse decides if she/he wants to list their degrees in their title or not. It is not a legal requirement.

Not sure what your point is in arguing with me. I have been trying to provide you with information and resources. I can't represent you to the VHA. Not clear what UC Davis has to do with this. It is not a VA hospital.
