          What svcs are included with Category 4 non-service connected. I worked with a PVA service officer and due to income appeared not to be eligible for anything. I was most interested in the supplemental payments in case we ever needed to enter senior housing. I would also be interested in accessing some sci services through Ann Arbor VA Hospital.

            Call the service officer back. Unless your SCI/D is extremely incomplete, you should qualify as Category 4 for medical care (VHA benefits). This includes both inpatient and outpatient care without co-payments, except for meds unrelated to your SCI/D. A SCI/D physician has to sign off on your Category 4 application...it is easy (1 page) but they will need to either examine you or get medical records for you in order to do this.

            This has nothing to do with your other veteran's benefits such as pension or compensation (which fall under the VBA division).

            Ann Arbor is not a SCI Center (they are a spoke clinic for the Cleveland VA SCI Center, where you should be going for your annual evaluation), but they should have an outpatient SCI clinic. The Social Worker there, according to my sources, can be contacted at:             (734) 845-3821. This person is also responsible to be sure your eligibility is set up correctly, and that you get referred to Cleveland for your annual evaluation.

                Thank you all for your service. USN SK2 (Supply). 86-90, 91-2004. Wife in a wheelchair from polio as a child from injected vacine. Work with several Vets as a volunteer. It is challenging to understand the terms. Hopefully another volunteer will share a ring binder with the cheat sheets.

                    545th military police company, 1st cav 1965-1967. rvn service connected 100%. sci took place about 2 months ago. logging accident. I fell a tree on myself. my fault. I showed up on your doorstep yesterday and im seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. injuries known are t10, vertabre in neck ? and something about water on the brain.

                      after a little over a month in hospital, I left and returned home. ive tried to get an appointment with my primary care team at the va med center in Missoula montana with no success. they tell me to go to the nearest emergency room. I contacted the pva with no success. you mention va sci center. ive never heard of that. this is what I think im looking for. I have been to a nuro surg for 2 mri, but he hasn't shared any info with me yet. sorry, I have a hard time sharing this stuff. willie

                      Willie, you appear to have gotten very bad advice and direction from the VA. This is especially disturbing in that you are already 100% SC for another condition.

                      Every VA Medical Center is required to have an SCI Outpatient/Support Clinic. As a SCI Veteran, this clinic should be your primary care clinic, and your liaison to your VA SCI Center, to which you should be sent for your initial rehab, annual check-up and any care that requires management by SCI experts (such as any surgical procedures, or care that requires hospitalization of 10 days or more).

                      Who at the PVA did you talk to? You should be in close contact with the National Service Officer for your area. You do need to be a member of PVA (free) and sign a power of attorney for him/her to have access to your VA Medical Records, but their job is to be your advocate. For Montana, your VA SCI Center is Seattle/Puget Sound, and the NSO there can be contacted here:
                      SCI Office, Seattle1660 S. Columbian Way, Rm 1-B-163, Seattle, WA Washington, 98108. Phone: 206-768-5415 .

                      They should also be able to connect you to the Montana VA SCI Support clinic, but you can also call them directly. Ask to speak to the clinic Social Worker (each support clinic is required to have a SCI-trained physician, registered nurse or nurse practitioner, and social worker): Location: Administrative Building, Floor 3, Contact Number(s): 406-447-7625, Hours of Operation: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm.

                        I contacted the pva at the national office and talked to a woman who was in charge and she told me there main scope was at the finance end, not what I had in mind. she gave me 2 numbers in seattle, which she said was the center for the area I live in. 206-341-8210 or 206-768-5415 she told me the names of the agents, one being mike. the one whos name I don't have is the one I talked to. he was at the 768 5415 it seemed every question he asked me was to discourage me from asking for. advise. they never said anything about a support clinic in montana. that sounds that is what Ive been searching for, but had no idea there was such a thing. I just clicked on the three links you sent me. the first one is a number which you just gave me, which direct me to the second link you sent me. the second link is where I got the phone numbers in seattle for the va. im going to wait until tomorrow (sleep) and call 406-447-7625 fort harrrison mt. va. again thank you, willie

I a lot of numbers at fort Harrison and nobody has heard of the unit. last night, a primary care nurse from fort Harrison called and said someone from the unit would call me today and said there was no way for me to contact them. someone from seattle va sci outpatient clinic called and asked me a bunch of questions. to be honest, I wish I was still laying up there in the woods.

I a lot of numbers at fort Harrison and nobody has heard of the unit. last night, a primary care nurse from fort Harrison called and said someone from the unit would call me today and said there was no way for me to contact them. someone from seattle va sci outpatient clinic called and asked me a bunch of questions. to be honest, I wish I was still laying up there in the woods.
                        Glad you are now in touch with the SCI unit in Seattle. I am sorry if you misunderstood about Montana. It is not an inpatient SCI unit. It is an SCI outpatient clinic only. They do not have an inpatient SCI unit there. Seattle should be able to get you in touch with the right people in Montana, as they have responsibilities for training and liaison with that clinic on a regular basis.

                        Did you try again to get ahold of the PVA NSO in Seattle?

                          the primary care nurse from fort Harrison in Helena who called the other day and promised I would get a call right away from there unit. well, no one has called. the person who called from seattle va outpatient clinic yesterday said she did not have a record of where my name (referral) came from and I said to her I thought it was from carecure. she said she had not heard of carecure, she did tell me that Rutgers was a leading research center in sci. please don't send me anymore referrals. thank you. gary d.                         Sorry. You do not require a referral to a SCI Center; you can self refer, and as you are all ready 100% service connected, your primary care clinic in MT. can also send a referral to Seattle giving them access to your medical records.

                        Not sure why you told them CareCure referred you...we are not a provider nor do we have any official link with the VA. Three of the four SCI-Nurses here had long careers working in VA SCI Centers and clinics, so our advice came from many years of experience. Sorry you are not happy with the contact & resource information we have provided you. I guess you are on your own now if you don't want to pursue these contacts further.
