This is a little gross. Don't read if you're faint of heart.
1 – Something bit me the other day on my neck. It actually made me bleed, and a few days later I got all these itchy spots all around my body. They started in a line down the back of my left leg, but then appeared all over bilaterally. They started as little pinprick looking dots, and then some spread to thumbtack size almost and maybe also bigger blotches. Some had little pinprick heads that secreted liquid, thinner than I would call puss, but it stained my bedding and clothes. Cortisone cream helps the itch, but I'm a little afraid to take Benadryl, because last time I did that, in the mid-90s, I got Bell's palsy. That, and the initial linear presentation, and my high regard for our nurses in conjunction with the unavailability of my own, lead me to post here. Does anyone know if this could be anything infectious that I should treat?
2 – I am seeking an infectious cause for my initial neurological decline. I started having mild neurological symptoms after returning from a semester in Spain years ago. Lyme disease tests were inconclusive but lumbar puncture was negative for Lyme (although positive for something wrong – – maybe lots of white blood cells? I forget.) Mild worsening followed by discrete declines after spinal injuries leave me now an incomplete tetraplegic with a severely atrophied cord.
Some slight improvement in the feeling in my legs subsequent to a couple of rounds of IV antibiotics in 2000 (for aspiration pneumonia) fortified my long held skepticism of my MS – sorry you're just screwed – diagnosis. My sensation has always remained largely intact. By "feeling" I mean my internal awareness of my legs. Maybe that's called proprioception – I feel more like I should be able to move my legs, even if I can't. My doctors perpetually tell me I have "inflammation," and at least sometimes I have elevated c – reactive protein.
I've been planning and failing to post about this in also the European forums with more details, but I figured I would take a shot at it now while I'm asking about infectious things. It was 1988 and I lived in Salamanca and visited Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Malaga, and Córdoba in Spain; Nice and Paris in France; Venice, Florence, and Rome in Italy; and spent a day in Morocco, on the touristy edge of Africa.
Anyone?
