  • Started Sinemet Trial

I was diagnosed with Spastic Idiopathic Paraparesis about 20 years ago. I have weakness in both legs, no balance, and I can only walk with forearm crutches. I've just started a Sinemet trial. Has anyone else here tried this trial, and if so, what were your results? Thanks!

    Sinemet is Carbidopa/Levodopa
Levodopa and carbidopa are used in combination to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease or Parkinson-like symptoms (e.g., shakiness, stiffness, difficulty moving). Parkinson's disease is thought to be caused by too little of a naturally occurring substance (dopamine) in the brain.

Levodopa changes into dopamine in the brain, helping to control movement.

Carbidopa prevents the breakdown of levodopa in the bloodstream so more levodopa can enter the brain.

This is the goal of using sinemet by the neurologist who has prescribed it.
