According to 1987 Scientology memo, they had 25,000 active members. FACT estimates that they have about 50,000 active members, that there may be 1-2 mllion former members, and they have a turnover of 80-95%.

One person pointed out that Scientology claimed over 8 million members in 1992 and in 2007, and at the same time claimed that they are the fastest growing church in the United States (Source). It is clear that most of the numbers are probably misleading. In any case, http://www.xenu-directory.net/practi...mbership1.html is probably the best source of information on the actual number of scientologists. They listed all the various claims and sources. Between 1998 and 2007, scientology launched a nationwide campaign to recruit 100,000 scientologists online and got only 16,000. CareCure is bigger than that.

well that's promising! It's hard to imagine so many people would fall for that claptrap.

When they were turned toward me I did!

Here's the Mormon episode if anyone's interested. Not as good as the Scientology one if I remember correctly.

There's one big difference. I was able to do a few clicks and get the Scientology one to play. Your link provided a frustrating seven minutes or so of experiment and no v-clip.

                Thanks for trying though.

I've read "Salamander: The Story of the Mormon Forgery Murders". Anyone who has has a pretty thorough introduction to Mormonism in the 1980s as well as a good insight into the hypocrisy of it.

Mark Hofmann, 32, pled guilty to two bombing murders in Salt Lake City in 1985, a case that made national headlines. Apparently a successful rare documents collector and church-going family man, Hofmann was really a skillful forger and con artist. A third bomb accidentally exploded in his car, sending Hofmann to the hospital and his undoing. Many of his forgeries cast doubt on traditional views of early Mormonism and were potentially embarrassing to church leaders who purchased them. The leaders were in contact with Hofmann just prior to the murders, which were an attempt to prevent discovery and financial ruin.
