French Space Agency to post UFO database

    French Space Agency´s UFO History

The French space agency will publish its UFO sightings archive online in early 2007, the Reuters wire service reported Friday.
According to Reuters, the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) will post a database of some 1,600 UFO sightings to the Web in late January or early February. Names, however, will be redacted from the database for privacy reasons.
The 6,000 documents -- primarily reports made to the police or filed by airline pilots -- stretch back 30 years, and will be available from the CNES's Web site.

The Brits recently posted some of their official files. NASA still says there isn´t jack out there, and this is nothing but frozen water and/or propellent.

The picture below was taken in 2001 over in Nottingham, and is very similar to the above picture.

thanks for this info Mike - I know someone here who would like nothing better than to be beamed up by an alien spaceship - he'll be really happy to see where UFO's have been sighted in France

This incident just happened in Chicago.

        Video report here.

The people who saw this at O´Hare International are no loonies, they were mechanics, pilots and other flight personnel. The FAA just sticks it head in the sand on a continual basis and calls it a "weather phenomenon". It is an insult to these people´s intelligence to say such a thing.

NASA should know better, as there have been unexplained UFO sightings by astronauts in each Apollo mission, and even most Shuttle missions. And if you ask any commercial airline pilot, he'll be able to tell you either personal sightings, or those of friends, if they were allowed to do so by their employers...and if they weren't afraid of being fired or branded a loony for speaking of what they've seen.

If we believe in UFOs, it sounds like some do, then the question in the other thread about SETI and if life exists elsewhere, intelligent life, is pretty much moot

The AF's Project Bluebook was a joke, nothing was seriously investigated, and the AF didn't allow investigators to have access to important info, such as radar, reports from trained AF pilots, etc. Hell, there was only one consultant as far as I remember, who actually investigated UFO sightings, or at least tried to, but he was compromised by the AF, even though he was beginning to believe in UFOs.

If a trained pilot, AF or not, sees something he can't explain, something that defies our laws of gravity and physics, you'd think the AF and FAA would take it seriously...and maybe they have, we just don't know about it.

And no, I'm not a kook...I take testimony from trained pilots who often see UFOs very seriously. These aren't your backyard sightings from bored people, or hoaxes...these pilots know what american and foreign aircraft look like, and what they can and can't do while in flight.

Too many people thoroughly trained in aircraft of all types have reported flying objects that can zip across the sky in a few seconds, or turn around in midflight on a dime, etc.

          Are these people crazy?

          IMO, no.

Rdf, I agree completely. In 2004, Naval History, a magazine published by the US Naval Institute, published a story about a US Navy maritime air patrol operating in Greenland. The magazine is quite serious, and is read by high ranking naval officers, current and retired. It surprised me that they would even write about UFO´s. The majority of the story....

Cosmic Curiosity: by Commander Edward P. Stafford, US
              Navy (Retired)

Half a century ago, three Navy aviators saw something high above
their Greenland base that baffled them.

It was August 1952. I was officer in charge of a detachment of
three Navy patrol planes operating out of the new US air base at
Thule, in northwest Greenland, some 80 miles from the North
Pole. The primary mission assigned our four engine, World War II
Privateers was "ice reconnaissance." That ment flying out over
the Kennedy Channel, Smith Sound, Baffin Bay, and the Davis
Strait and plotting the location of the pack ice and large
bergs. That data was relayed to the ships that each summer re-
supplied the chain of arctic radar stations known as the DEW
              (distant early warning) line.

Our secondary job, not to interfere with ice reconnaissance ,
was to support a group of scientists conducting cosmic ray
research. About once a week, when weather conditions were right,
they sent up a huge, translucent "Skyhook" balloon with a
package of sensative photographic plates suspended under it.
The balloons would drift downwind at an altitude of 90,000-
100,000 feet, where the atmosphere (spun thinner near the poles
by the rotation of the earth) was sufficiently attenuated to
permit the cosmic rays to make their telltale traces on the
photographic plates. When the plates had been exposed for a few
hours, the scientists would send a radio signal to the balloon,
exploding a small charge, cutting the plates loose, and
returning them to earth under a large, bright red parachute.

Our job was to fly above any overcast, keep the high balloons
in sight, and report the landing location of the parachuted
plates for recovery by helicopter. The high-flying gas bags were
equipped by low power, low frequency radio transmitters to which
we would tune our radio compasses so their needles always
              pointed toward the balloons.

These were easy flights, always in good weather and always at an
altitude safely above the tall, cloud-shrouded bergs and coastel
rocks we often had to dodge on ice patrol. Each of us had two or
three of those "milk runs" while deployed to Thule, and we
rather enjoyed the change of tactics and routine, as well as the
virtuous feeling that we were helping to advance the cause of
              science.

This is why I was surprised to find one of the other plane
commanders as tense and pale on return from a balloon chase as
though it had been a hairy combat mission or a close encounter
with a berg or a mountaintop. Lt. John Callahan was a salty,
steady professional pilot, so I knew when I saw him walking in
from his plane that something serious had happened on that
              flight.

"What the hell's the matter John?" I asked him. "You look as if
you'd just survived a midair!" "Ed, you're not going to be-
lieve it. I'm not even sure I do...and I SAW it. And so did
O'Flaherty and Merchant. At least most of it. And I don't think
              they believe it either."

I followed John into the line shack where he wrote up some minor
gripes on his airplane, then into our little ready room where we
poured ourselves coffees and sat down. John was not acting at
all like the Callahan I knew. Although he was an experienced and
highly competent naval aviator, John Callahan's normal manner
was outgoing and cheerful, even jovial, with lots of smiles and
              laughter and banter...even after a low-level hurricane
penetration or a long patrol in instrument weather. Not this
day. Now he was deadly serious and obviously shaken. The last
time I had seen a man like this was in wartime.

              Here is John Callahan's story:

He was flying at 10,000 feet in the clear with the balloon in
sight high above and the radio compass needle locked on to the
balloon's transmitter. Through the one set of binoculars carried
in each aircraft, he and his copilot, Lt. (jg) Bill O'Fla-
herty, occasionally inspected the balloon and its instrument
package, trailing beneath like the tail of a kite. Everything
looked normal for most of the flight. Then, on a routine check
with the binoculars, John found something very abnormal about
the balloon and its payload. He looked for a long time and then
              passed the glasses to O'Flaherty.

"Take a look at our target," he told the young officer, "and
tell me what you see." O'Flaherty looked, lowered the glasses
and glanced sharply at John, then looked again. "Well?" "Jesus
Christ, John there are three bright silver discs attached to
that instrument pod! They weren't there the last time I looked.
Where the hell did they come from?"

Callahan took the glasses back and looked again. They were still
there exactly as the copilot had described, three shining,
saucer-shaped metallic objects clustered on the hanging trail of
the balloon just above the black dot of the science package.

On the intercom Callahan called the plane captain to the cock-
pit and handed him the binoculars. "Take a look Merchant. What
do you think?" The captain's reacton was the same as the
copilot's. "What the hell are they? Where did they come from?"

Callahan took the glasses back and studied the strange objects
for several minutes while O'Flaherty maneuvered the Privateer to
keep the target in sight. Suddenly Callahan sucked in his breath
and held it. What he was seeing could not be happening. The
three objects had detached themselves from the tail of the
balloon and formed up into a compact vee. As Callahan watched
incredulously, they executed what looked at that distance like
a vertical bank to the left and accelerated to a blinding
speed that took them out of sight, climbing in about three
              seconds.

Callahan handed the glasses back to O'Flaherty. "They're gone,"
he said slowly, "CLIMBING from 90,000 feet. Never saw anything
turn so tight or move so fast."

Back in the ready room after the instrument pod had landed and
its position had be reported, this was the aspect of the
              phenomenon that most affected Callahan.

"Jesus, Ed," he told me, "from the angle of the sky those things
passed through in the three seconds they were in sight, at that
distance, they must have been going tens of thousands of miles
an hour. They must have pulled a hundred Gs in that turn. And
what the hell climbs out, ACCELERATING from 90,000 feet?"

John sat down that day, while it was still clear in his head,
and wrote a full report of the incident. It went through the
chain of command to the Office of Naval Intelligence. A report
was also made to the Air Force authorities at Thule. There never
has been an explanation, nor even an acknowledgment of the
report. The phenomenon exists today only in the memory of John
              C. Callahan, his copilot, his plane captain, and I, to whom it
was told so vividly when it was fresh.

              Skyhook Balloons
Thirteen stratospheric plastic Skyhook balloons were launched in September 1953 as part of Project Churchy, an ONR funded cosmic ray expedition at the geomagnetic equator. The balloons encountered temperatures of minus 112 degrees fahrenheit during their flights which reached altitudes of over 100,000 feet. (U.S. Navy Photo RELEASED - 11/7/2003)

ITA RDF. The government disinformation folks brand competent AF pilots as nuts whenever they speak up about what they've seen. I think the govs around the world have been given the green light to start slowly leaking this stuff in preparation for a full disclosure at some point in the future.

so what do you think they will be disclosing? do you really think there's some great secret about aliens? I assume that UFOs are exactly that, unidentified flying objects. Governments probably ignore them because they have no explanations and the UFOs themselves pose no problems or threats.

The O´Hare incident is getting major press. It´s all over the net. The mainstream media makes sure they put the funny farm spin on it, but CNN has done a few takes on the story. Apparently, pictures were taken, but are not yet available.

                      The Glenn Beck Program

                      <snip>

                      [19:44 Eastern]

Beck: OK, illegal aliens may be a serious problem on our
southern border and on the northern border, but what about the
aliens who may be crossing another border? Oh, yes, the border
                      above. That's right.

We're talking about outer space, aliens, extraterrestrials,
Latoya Jackson, you know, you know, they're here, they're among
us. More and more people believe that space aliens may be
                      coming.

(As I said, almost every major media outlet has to attach a wackyness statement to anything related to UFO´s, and Beck is no exception, even though he knows the story is serious.)

Now listen to this story, because this is an actual news story.
This isn't like out of the Weekly World News. Chicago O'Hare's
airport recently - the United Airlines employees claim they
observed a flying saucer-like object hovering low over the
terminal for several minutes before bolting through the thick
clouds with such ferocity that it actually left like a creepy
hole in the cloudy skies overhead.

So what was it? A hoax? An alien attack? Were they observing us?
Is this a military operation? What was it?

Joining us now is UFO historian Richard Dolan and the guy who
actually broke the story. His name is John Hilkevitch. He is
from Chicago and the "Chicago Tribune."

John, let me start with you. The UFO witnesses in Chicago,
they're not nuts, are they? They are like really fine,
                      upstanding people?

Jon Hilkevitch, Chicago Tribune: And they're very serious
about this. They're all United Airlines employees, ranging from
pilots to supervisors, who heard chatter about this on the radio
and raced out and saw it in the sky, aircraft mechanics,
veterans of O'Hare who have been there for a long time, know how
lights can play tricks in the sky, and they say this wasn't
that. This was a real, metallic, gray object, low in the sky,
                      and they want answers.

Beck: OK, do you believe them? Do you believe that they believe
it or - do you believe that they really saw what they think
                      they saw?

Hilkevitch: I believe that what they're reporting - and it is
real, and they were concerned about safety. They're not
necessarily saying that this is a craft from another galaxy...

                      Beck: Sure.

Hilkevitch: ... but they're saying this is an unidentified
flying object, low in the sky over the world's second-busiest
airport. It could pose a collision risk, who knows, a security
risk, in this era of post- 9/11. And they...

Beck: Now, let me go to Richard here. I'm sorry to interrupt.
But let me go to Richard for just a second and ask you, because
isn't this the same kind of thing that, when we had the new
stealth fighters out, everybody was saying, "It's an alien
spacecraft." No, it's just a secret military aircraft that we
hadn't announced for years in advance.

Is there a possibility that you think that this is just some
sort of military aircraft that we haven't released that we have?

Richard Dolan, UFO Historian: Sure, anything is possible, Glenn.
But if you want to go that route, then I think what you need to
do, to be honest about it, is go back through the decades and,
indeed, generations of reports that we've collected of these
types of objects that people have been seeing.

And let me just add that this is a phenomenon that not simply
civilian people have been dealing with, but U.S. military
personnel had been encountering what appear to be UFOs - I
don't know what else you would call them - objects that
military pilots have frequently said are disc- shaped, that look
exotic, that behave in unusual ways, and that have violated
sensitive airspace time and again for many, many years.

So if this is a secret, covert project, as many people have
speculated, it seems to be going on in a rather confrontational,
provocative way, and that really doesn't have any explanation.

Beck: All right. So, John, you think that this is - there was
some sort of a cover-up. At least the FAA was not real honest
with you when you first asked, right?

Hilkevitch: Well, yes. I went to the FAA, and they said they
have no reports of this at all. I put in a Freedom of
Information Act request, and then they got back to me several
days later, saying that, in reviewing the communication tapes at
O'Hare, they did come across chatter involving this object, and
that a United supervisor contacted the FAA manager in the tower
and asked that they, the controllers, had seen anything unusual.

Also, United Airlines told me that they had no reports of this,
even though the fact is that they were interviewing up to a
dozen employees who reported observing this, asking them to
                      write reports, draw pictures.

After my story broke on Monday, United said, "Well, yes, we have
                      been talking to these employees."

Beck: OK, so, Richard, why would United, why would the FAA -
give me an explanation why these guys would be hiding this
                      stuff?

Dolan: Well, I mean, one reason just might be that they're
embarrassed to come out and say that, "Oh, yes, you know, we've
got this UFO hanging out over O'Hare and we don't know what to
                      do about it."

Let's face it. If you're running a large corporation or a
bureaucracy, the last thing you want to do is stick your neck
out on an issue like this. And so it doesn't surprise me at all.
And, in fact, this is, again, part of a long history.

FAA, as well, has not always been forthcoming over many, many
alleged cases. I mean, witnesses have seen these very bizarre
things for years and years. And it's very tough to get a
straight answer out of a lot of government agencies or other
                      corporate bodies.

Beck: All right. And then, John, let me go back to you and ask -
                      - I mean, jeez, I saw Saddam Hussein hung with a cell phone
camera. How come there's no pictures? Are there pictures? Is
there video? Is there anything? Here it is, over Chicago and
O'Hare Airport, how come we don't see any visuals?

Hilkevitch: Well, pictures haven't emerged yet, but I'm told
that the flight crew that was being pushed back, one of the
pilots did open the wind screen, look out, did identify this
object, and he had a digital camera. He may have taken some
                      pictures.

We're also hearing other reports that there may have been
photographs from camera phones and such that United Airlines may
be aware of this. And I'm working - believe me - to find these
                      witnesses...

Beck: OK, if anybody has information on those witnesses, how do
they get a hold of you?

Very interesting, I think I had seen that before on abovetopsecret.com or alienhub.com's ufo sightings galleries... They have a lot of incredible videos!

More pilots talking about the nasty.

A search of Youtube with "XCon" bring in tons of stuff.

The David Sereda presentation is really good.
