spinal cord injury and rabies

Would viruses of the CNS be able to infect a person with a spinal cord injury? If it entered the body and attempted to travel up into the brain, would a totally severed spinal cord make a difference? I guess it could travel up spinal fluid?

Viruses often enter the CNS through the bloodstream or peripheral nerves. Consequently, the spinal cord injury is irrelevant.
