    World's largest cities

Some of these numbers are surprising. When I was in Chongqing, they told me that the city district has 32 million people, which would put it second in the world. Much depends on what one calls the borders of the city. I was surprised that they put New York's population at 21,900,000. They must include a lot of surrounding areas, including Brooklyn, Staten Island, Bronx. If they included North Jersey, Long Island, and many of the towns North of the City that are bedroom communities for New York City, I suspect that the number will be greater than Tokyo.

    Wise.

I wonder if Los Angeles includes OC and Riverside? Certainly LA and surrounding area must be by far largest land mass of city in world.

I would have said Houston. LA and surrounding area often still has spaces in between, whereas Houston just keeps going and going and going...

I can't understand a city that size. The biggest city I have been in is Bangkok with 8 million people. I am satisfied with Oslo, with 450 000 people

LA County has about 10 million...the figure in the article says the city of Los Angeles has 18 million. That's probably half the population of the whole state. I wonder what criteria they used to determine what constitutes a city? Surely OC and Riverside and SD counties, basically all of SoCal, must have been counted.

btw billy, you living full time down there nowadays? I'm missing it big time, gettin tired of the snow, and I can smell the ocean if I try hard enough. I miss the ocean, the people, the weather...I miss it all.

My city has about 1.6 million and that's enough of a crowd for me.

The river in MT? It's pretty cool there.

I'm now in Iowa, and it's the only place I can remember living where I couldn't see mountains or at least foothills somewhere off on the horizon. Here, nary a one, and I've driven hundreds of miles through the state.

I've lived all over the West, but I swear I can't recall not being able to see mountains or foothills or even simple hills, even when living in the deserts of Utah, AZ and Nevada. Hell, even Vegas has mountains not far away.

I miss the ocean big time, and all parts of California. I checked out my cali home town webcam the other day, and started to cry

You're lucky, and I might be joining you soon if I get too antsy.

My town has 1500. After living in the LA area, it's just right.

I believe the actual city of New York has about 8 million. They must be counting Westchester County, northern Jersey, Long Island and even the most densely populated part of Connecticut in that 22 million figure.

You're right - they're counting the total population of the 'New York Metropolitan area' or the 'tri-state area'. NYC itself (the 5 boroughs) does have a population of about 8 million.
