I was mesmerized by the video From. The builder and pilots skill was amazing. Did they have two pilots running the plane; one for the B-29 and another for the smaller plane.

The size of the b-29 was really shown by the kid holding the smaller one on its wing next to him. How large was the wingspan on the B-29.

I would often go to the rc events in california, as well as regular air shows. lots of fun. could be an expensive hobby.

They are a long way from the u-line planes with a Cox .049 cubic inch engine that I built and flew back in the early 1950s. lol What fun we had. I did have a free flight balsa wood glider with a 60" wingspan.

I had a couple control line planes when i was a kid around and around until i fell down from being dizzy is how i usually flew... eventually figured out to lengthen the lines so it didnt circle so fast had many a cut finger from starting them little .O49 cox engines.... good times..

Pat: the site loaded fine he must have had some weedeater sized engines in the plane pretty amazing plane i could never afford scale sized planes when i was really into flying although i still have a dozen or so planes including the glider we taught ourselves to fly with backwards of most we flew in the winter off the ice on a lake near our house made for a large runway.....

Wills77: You are already ahead of the game having eye/hand coordination for me the tough part was remembering the controls seem backwards when the plane/car is coming towards you left is right etc. there are some fairly cheap ready to fly planes available called park flyer s the do not take much area to fly and are easy to repair.. Do you have gas or electric cars & trucks? I have been thinking I need one of those buggy looking cars....

judging by the sound and smoke trail i am thinking they had a Estes rocket engine typically used to shoot model rockets, they must have had some kind of electric battery to ign fuse which looked like a match head on metal stick my boys had a couple and they were ignited by two D-cell batteries in the day. although they do make electric fan jet engines these days i think they would have flown it longer with a fan set up... way cool set up for sure....

It is a model of the Bell X-1 rocket plane that was the first to break the sound barrier. I will go with the rocket engine. I was about 10 years old when that flight occurred. There was a lot of talk about it, including fears of gloom and doom as a result of disturbing the atmosphere. Lol

That was about the time that I became interested in flying. An uncle was a sales rep for the Piper Aircraft Company, which was headquartered at Bradford, PA, about 20 miles from my home. He had a Piper Cub at his disposal. During the summer after we mowed the hayfields, he would come by and land in one. He would then take my brother, dad, and me on flights around the countryside. Great fun and great memories.
