When I hafta fly, I always arrive late to the gate and have booked seats way in the back of the plane. If there's a seat available up front, they often throw me in there to get the flight off on time.

Anyone have any other good tricks for getting bumped-up a class? I'm leaving for this week and dread 15 hrs in coach.

It used to be a lot easier to be bumped up to first class than it is now. Once upon a time you just had to point out to them how much easier it would be for them and you too if they let you go into first, now it never happens, at least not on US carriers. If you manage to pull it off let us know so I can employ your technique next flight, but after the whole terrorism thing they are not so big at letting people change seats from what the manifest has listed.

Yeah Eileen, hardly ever get moved-up anymore though I thought it was more due to the fact there are never seats left up-front with everybody upgrading with points. But your explanation certainly makes a lot of sense too.

dont know about getting to 1st class...but i always get to the gate EARLY, so im 1st on......and i never book a seat...when i check in(usually outside) they give me a seat in 1st row(has alot of legroom)..airlines usually keep em open for wheelchair/assistance needed people......or they will move people to open one up......

Yeah Roc; that's the SOP. Problem with me is, I'm not comfortable sitting in the bulkhead. I like to have a seat in front of me to grab on to and lean on to shift my weight and stretch. Without the seat, I fall forward. Also, on fast or short landings, I've been thrown forward, just hanging by my seatbelt, twice. Kind of a catch-22.

Why do you always arrive late? If you get there early things will be a lot more relaxed, a lot less frustration all the way around.
