  • Neuropathic Pain Increasing

I had a spinal cord injury about twenty years ago and recovered to the point were I could function pretty normally. Within the last few years I noticed a big increase in neuropathic pain and my walking was not as steady. I have had several MRI's over the years and there was not detectable changes over the year to the point of injury. How common is this?

Unfortunately it is very common that neuropathic pain from SCI worsens with aging. What are you doing for pain management currently? What have you tried in the past?

Have you discussed this with your physiatrist or neurologist? Seen a pain management physician?

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.
