Free Website for Families Dealing with Serious Injury or Illness

If your family is dealing with the new SCI of a family member, you may want to consider setting up a free webpage to keep friends and family updated and decrease your need to make or take multiple phone calls answering the same questions all the time. The Caring Bridge Foundation has created a place to do this for free that is easy to use, accessible, yet still private.

CaringBridge is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization offering free personalized Web sites to those wishing to stay in touch with family and friends during significant life events. Our mission is to bring together a global community of care powered by the love of family and friends in an easy, accessible and private way.

CaringBridge authors quickly and easily create personalized Web sites that display journal entries and photographs. Well-wishers visit the page to read updates and leave messages in the Guestbook.

The CaringBridge experience is unique for both authors and visitors in its immediacy, intimacy and wide-reaching impact. We make profound human connections, using technology to serve a higher purpose in a powerful way.

As of August 1, 2005, we have hosted more than 28,000 CaringBridge sites. Those sites have received more than 162 million visits and over 4 million guestbook entries.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

My wife started one of these for us after I was injured. I can't say enough about how it has benefited us. Very, very helpful and totally free.

I started site for my son back in August when he became paralyzed, it was recommended by a friend to cut down on everyone calling and asking how we were. It really worked out amazing especially to keep everyone informed. I still post every night, it's my therapy.

While this thread is 11 years old, Caring Bridge is still a great site for keeping family and friends up-to-date with health issues. I have had several women friends who used this to keep us all informed about progress with their breast cancer.

I saw the other day that United spinal Association has a great resources page.

There are also so many great YouTube channels out there (a good way to find more is to look on featured channels by clicking on the "channels" tab on any YouTube channel that you like)
here are a few good YouTube channels:

Shawn Fluke with live to roll.
Zach Collie does a more of a vlog but there's a lot of informative videos on there.
Mason Ellis does a lot of really informative videos
this guy makes a bunch of cool products called abilitease
and, if you're looking for fitness videos Zuk Fitness instructed by quads and paras.

            Hope this helps someone someone!
