    New SCI resources?

Just met a new SCI. Of course I told him about this website. Any other resources more up to date? There’s a lot of good info here, but we’re not nearly as active as we were back in the day when I was injured.

where else does one turn for peer support and to figure out how to live life without a functioning spinal cord?

Is there a local chapter of United Spinal Association near him? That would be my first suggestion. It's free, and also gives him a subscription to New Mobility magazine.

Also see if he has been hooked up with a trained peer mentor from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Paralysis Foundation. This is a free service: https://www.christopherreeve.org/get...-a-peer-mentor

If he is a US military veteran, he should get in touch with his closest PVA chapter. Membership is free. :

Where did he do his rehab? Many large SCI rehab centers offer outpatient support groups.

If he needs education and info on best practices (not just emotional support), a number of large centers have their patient education materials available on-line. This includes the Consortium for Spinal Cord Medicine (available on the PVA website), the Shepherd Center, Univ. of Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Craig. I can provide those links if that is what he is looking for.

Do encourage him to join us too.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

Already encouraged him to join us, of course. I just don't know if I'd stick around if I were new to carecure these days since we're not as active as we used to be (as this thread demonstrates, lol). Thanks for your reply, KLD, as always you're a tremendous resource.

I didn't know about the Christopher Reeve peer mentor thing. I'll definitely mention that.
