6 yr old boy with Syrinx

My son started losing motor skills rapidly this past school year. He had an MRI which revealed a 5 mm wide syrinx that goes from T6-T10. How bad is that? He also suffers severe constipation, incontinence, pain in his legs, headaches...

How old is your son? I assume he does not have a prior SCI, so that this is primary (not secondary) syringomyelia? Any chance he has spina bifida (or spina bifida occulta)?

Here is an organization that can provide you and him with a lot of information and support: http://www.asap.org

Here is some additional helpful information: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/s...ingomyelia.htm

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.
