  • Hello...new to the forum

Hi to all...my name is Patty. I was involved in a roll over car accident on 1-11-09, which has left me with several life altering injuries, including a C 5/6 incomplete spinal cord injury. Ironically, my accident was a result of falling asleep at the wheel, after the hospital, in which I worked as neuro nurse, forced me over into a second back to back 16 hour shift. After finding myself regressing backward in some of the progress I had made, both functional and neurological, I was thrilled to find this site. I appreicate the many informative posts that I have had the opportunity of reading since joining. It is my hope to make new acquaintances, gain useful insight and secure, as well as lend, emotional support. Thanks for listening!!

Welcome, from one neuro nurse to another- sorry to hear about your injury. This is a great site and many helpful people. Check out the Care forum also, and of course all the other forums.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

Welcome, and hope you get as much as possible off this site. I know that rehab can cover only so much, so get the info you need here. It's so helpful to find out about the "little" things that you find out are everyday things for everyone, and how to approach them. Again welcome.

Welcome Patty. I wish there was something we could do to stop the abuse that you were subjected to, and is widespread these days. I do not see anything in the current health care reform efforts that will address it.

Hopefully, we can help you make the best out of a bad situation.

Thank you to all for making me feel so welcome. Looking forward to paticpating in forums with each of you. Currently, I'm struggling with a bit of vanity, which I know should be the least of my concerns. However, during the accident I broke several facial bones, as well as sustained an orbital blowout. And although I was never a raving beauty, I was at least symmetrical. The next step in accepting this new me is to allow pic's to be taken...and that is so hard.

Welcome to the Care Cure group! Like we say "Sorry you had to find us but glad that you did". Any time you have a question please come here and post it. Some one will answer you. If they don't the answer they will find out the answer & get back to you. REMEMBER ! the only silly question is the one that you don't ask. So ask please when you have a question. Also there are the great SCI Nurses who are also very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Also there is friendly Dr. Wise Young the developer of this site who is also great, helpful and knowledgeable.

                          Patty,
Welcome to this site. There is a wealth of information here. So sorry to hear about your accident. Please don't hesitate to contact a lawyer and file suit, back-to-back 16 hour shifts are just plain wrong.

I wish you well in your rehab/recovery. Keep working hard.

                          Best wishes.
Ugh, I've been kissed by a dog!
