I've searched online but I haven't found any information that fits my issue. I'm a quadriplegic, going on 21 years now. I've gained weight over the years, and I'm pretty sure my hormones are out of control at this phase in my life. Here's my question: does prolonged sitting cause swelling of the vaginal area? I've ruled out vaginal infection, no chance of STDs, no trauma to the area, no allergic reaction. This has been going on for a few months. At first the swelling would come and go, but now it's just staying swollen which makes catheters challenging to do. I've got an appointment scheduled with my obgyn in a few weeks but I'd like to have options ready to discuss with him. Is it swelling from sitting, is it hormones, could it be perimenopause (I'm46)? Any options are appreciated!

Do you mean the vulva? The mons? The labia?
It could be dependent edema from sitting a lot, but inflammation/infection should also be ruled out. It will be interesting to see what your OB/Gyn says. I've never seen this before in women with SCI/D.
