    Spinal stimulator & pregnancy

Hello! I am an incomplete L2 para female from an SCI 10years ago. I have chronic sacral neuropathy that feels like a UTI all the time and burning when I cath. Everything that could be wrong with my bladder/ urethra was ruled out and the pain was declared to be neuropathic in origin. I had a spinal stimulator (Boston Scientific) with paddles instead of wires placed above and below my level of injury. The stimulator has given me my life back and reduced my overall pain to a 2/10 ~85% of the time.

I am also a graduating medical student and will be starting my residency in psychiatry this summer. My husband and I are deciding about whether to pursue pregnancy or adoption in the next few years. I would like to get pregnant, but the concern my OBGYN had was about the stimulator and whether or not pregnancy would irreversibly increase my sacral neuropathic pain. There are also not any specific studies about the effects a spinal stimulator could have on a pregnancy.

Moving forward, I would like to know if anyone has any personal experience with this problem or knows someone who has that I could talk to. My OBGYN would also like to confer with their OBGYN and we can decide which path we want to take moving forward.
