    Pregnancy & baclofen

Hi, my husband and I want to start trying for a baby. I take 70 mg of baclofen per day in oral tablet form. I switched to Cyclobenzaprine because my doctor said it was safer for a baby, but my body couldn't handle it. Too many bad side effects. Has anyone remained on baclofen during pregnancy?

Strongly urge you to taper off and stop baclofen prior to attempting a pregnancy. Birth defects can be caused by the use of baclofen in the first trimester. After that, most feel it is OK to restart baclofen. The same goes for tizanadine. You might be able to use dantrolene sodium instead; speak to both your OB/Gyn and SCI physician about this option.
