Fertility drugs (IVF ) and blood clots

We are planning to start an ivf cycle. I have to do be on Estrace and then the shots. My RE is not familiar with SCI and my GP is away until April. I'm pretty active & go to the gym 3-4 times a week. Should I still be worried about possibility of blood clot? should i take baby asprin just to be on the safe side or is heparin is my only choice? doesnt it heparin have any side effect? thank you so much im very very nervous

You are at higher risk for blood clots than an AB woman on the same drugs, due to your SCI. How much spasticity do you have? This is somewhat protective as it prevents blood pooling in your legs. Do you wear compression hose? You should discuss aspirin with your OB/Gyn or the fertility specialist you are working with. Heparin (which should be low molecular weight heparin or LMWH) would also be a possibility, with one daily shot, but even that increases your risks for bleeding in other areas, either with an injury (such as a fall) or even spontaneously. You will continue to be at some increased risk of DVT during pregnancy, so a discussion of those risks and management with your OB/Gyn should take place now.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

Sorry...did not see this till now. I was put on baby aspirin the whole time I was taking IVF meds...and once they took (YAY!) I need to go to an internal fetal medicine doctor so that they can monitor me and decide whether or not they put me on other meds for possible blood clots.

          Twins? Trips?

I have twins so let me know if you need info on managing two at once from a chair.

One...which we were happy with. We would have been happy with 2 or 3 but we were blessed with only 1...now just trying to get through the dreaded first trimester...then maybe I can relax a bit (I doubt it...but I can dream).

Will definitely be contacting you...if you can manage 2...then I am sure you can help me manage 1!

            Congrats to you!
