    Bad Kitty

For some odd reason my cat has been acting up lately. The last three mornings I have woke up to a popped overnight bag. I can't figure out why in the hell he would want to play with a thing like that. The worst part about it is that i can hear him when he's doing it, but i can't do anything about it. I'll yell at him and he will just look at me like, "What? i'm busy." and go right back to popping the damn thing. It has made quite the mess. I guess i'm gonna have to get him declawed.

If I had to take a guess, there's a female cat in heat outside...He's trying to get your attention to let him out....Is he fixed? Before you get him declawed(I'm not a fan of declawing personally) I would recommend getting him fixed f he's not...Also, a temporary fix for the immediate problem...do ya have a spare litter box? maybe place your overnight bag in or over that so that when/if he does pop it again at least it's going to be somewhat contained in kitty litter and easier to clean up...

When my female cat was in heat, she'd pee on the rug next to my bed...besides being smelly(and I have almost NO sense of smell) it was always an unpleasant puddle first thing in the morning when I was transferring to my chair...As long as I kept her litter box completely clean(and I do mean COMPLETELY) it was a little better, but if I was gone too long she'd still leave me little gifts...

My cat ALWAYS tries to either lay on mine or flex the old claws on it. I have to keep flipping her noggin to get her to quit. Takes about 3x and then she stops... until the NEXT day. I think my sister pegged it. It is her version of a waterbed, lol.
Kind of like, what in the world makes people get their jollies popping bubble wrap? It takes ALL kinds to make the whIrlEd go 'round...

BTW, that is a GREAT picture of your son! Bet he is a handful.

plus it may be warm...yeah i don't have a bag like that but my pups have a thing for lying on my feet. i hate it because it sets off my spasms and the burning, but hey, my feet are warm and they aren't big dogs.

Cats like plastic. In the morning my little terrorist sometimes decides to sit on his haunches and claw away at the garbage bag sticking out a bit out of the garbage can behind me. Of course he is doing that for attention and a treat as I inavertently 'trained' him to do this (and screech at me, open and close the kitchen cabinets, bring me his ball, etc., first thing in the morning when I'm trying to have my coffee). Early on when trying to shoo him away in the morning I'd give him his treat, and I think this sort of made an impression in his mind as to what to do when I wake up. I have been weening him from the treats, and he has been weening me from the morning commotion, so it's working out.

But now that that tangent from the topic is over...I'm thinking along the lines of he smells pee, so this may be a territorial issue. Back when I had this nasty little dog living here that had a totally gross habit of peeing in the house, my kitty would be making the rounds telling me what the dog did in a way. Kitty would smell localized dog pee, and start clawing at the spot. Dog gone=kitty clawing lots less. I've been slowly resurrecting the house after that nightmare, and my kitty is finding less places to find the need to claw at stuff.

But it could also be that your kitty likes you too and is spreading his scent (the glands are in his paws). I know my kitty likes to reach up and claw the armrest of my chair with me in it, and the couch too when I'm in it. It's his way of saying hi. But since he's going after the pee bag, I'll bet he smells something.

Thanks for this post. Even though the mess is not cool, the posts are funny. I can see the allure of the bag to the cat.
I want a kitty but I don't want the mess.
Now I'm making messes (I've recently started "leaking").
                  The picture is great, coffee.
Was the bird pecking at kittycat, I wonder?
I mean, I really like that picture.

LOL Bad Kitty! I don't think there's any stopping him now...it's a game now, just like laying in the sink with water dripping or pulling ornaments off the Xmas tree, if they don't break then slamming them into the wall works...it's fun- for a cat.

There are things called kitty paws, plastic rounded coverlets for cat nails but I understand declawing in certain situations...but ask your vet about both and decide from there.

My cat had a habit of Peeing on my pillow (that I sleep on) when she felt neglected or the litter box was full. I bought three pillows in one week until I figured out she needed her daily lovin' when she wanted not when it was convenient for me....LOL

I use to have a bird like that and I imagine that bird was doing a number on the little kitty head. If it was a older cat i'm sure the bird would have been long gone hah

Has your routine changed lately? Is there a new person around or has someone your cat likes not been around? Is he fixed? Are there new cats hanging around your house? One of my cats really likes anything plastic and will chew on loose sheets of paper, too.

I guess i'm gonna have to get him declawed.
Mutilating your cat is not the answer. Far better to find out what's going on and see if that can be changed or fixed. Lock him out of your bedroom at night if you have to, but don't have his paws cut up just because he is doing something inconvenient to you.

Neutering/Spaying a cat late is no sure thing they will not continue bad habits, like spraying or attempting to pro-create.
