    news article about a friend..

that i met and was in-patient with at Shepherd...

    Marietta Daily Journal Sports Writer

MARIETTA - Jerry Watkins, a Cobb County resident who has been a softball umpire for 10 years, didn't go into shock when he was first told by doctors that he would never walk again.

Still too injured to talk, Watkins calmly accepted the news and grabbed a pen and a piece of paper. He wrote to the doctors, "What are we going to do to get me better?"

Watkins was told right after his horrific automobile accident that it would be a miracle if he made it through the first night, much less going back to doing what he loves - officiating softball games.
