    frustrated about renting

    I am looking for a place to rent as my husband is getting the house in the divorce. I live in a very rural place and it is so hard to find a place I can get around in.
    I have to get people to come help me in to look at the place as the all have steps. The apartments in the town close to me have only 2 handicapped accessible apts. both rented. I would rent a regular but there are none available on the bottom floor. The other place I went had handicapped parking right next to the stairs. Not a ramp in sight. Stupid people. Then I found out a friend of mine had a place come open. Perfect location, plenty of room..... She told me I'd have to build a ramp in the back because it would look ugly from the road!!! What the heck is wrong with people? For some reason that hurt my feelings. Not to mention that the back door leads to a bedroom and it is muddy back there. The front has pavement. AHHH. Thanks for letting me spill. I could move to Nashville which is an hour away but it is too far from my kids school.
    If you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

    Some ramps are beautiful and enhance the home. My ramp is colonial in style like my home, and it does not look disabled. Ramps are not only for crips, many people have an easier access: strollers, people with walkers, delivery carts, etc. Two neighbors built a similar ramp after they saw mine.

      Crippy would you mind posting a pic of your ramp? And others that have ramps in front--need some ideas.

        Having the ramp in back could also be of benefit as you wouldn't want anyone to view you as an 'easy target.' When I was house shopping - I didn't want the ramp in view.

          Renting sucks. I blew $25k last year with nothing to show for it. You're lucky you don't live in California! Good luck finding a place.

            Will try to post pics of the ramp and the van. My kids have the camera kidnapped and nowhere to be found. Give me a coupla days.

                I live in a small small place. My "town" has 600 people in its "city" limits. There are lots more outside the limits but you get the picture. EVERYONE knows I'm in a chair, as well as all of the rest of my business. Only 2 mail routes here. Little bitty.... I did find a place but now to deal with the moving and asking for help that I never needed before ); Boy life is an adjustment.
                If you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

                    Addie--I know what you mean about having to ask for help for everything. It's an adjustment.

                      As opposed to...? Funny, I can't recall anything before mine started...but it's a good bet that when that unit with the tail met the big mother-humper the newbie found the whole thing an eye-opener.

                            Congratulations on finding a place! That's half the battle and that much tougher in smaller areas.
