      This is my favorite -

      The Dance

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

      And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

      Holding you I held everything
      For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have chanced it all

      And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance

Soundgarden: The Day I tried to Live

I woke the same as any other day
Except a voice was in my head
It said seize the day, pull the trigger,
        Drop the blade
        And watch the rolling heads

The day I tried to live
        I stole a thousand beggar's change
And gave it to the rich

The day I tried to win
I dangled from the power lines
        And let the martyrs stretch
        Singing

        One more time around
        Might do it
        One more time around
        Might make it
        One more time around
        Might do it
        One more time around
The day I tried to live

        Words you say never seem
To live up to the ones
        Inside your head
        The lives we make
Never seem to ever get us anywhere
        But dead

The day I tried to live
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
        All the other pigs

I woke the same as any other day you know
I should have stayed in bed

The day I tried to win
I wallowed in the blood and mud with
        All the other pigs

And I learned that I was a liar
        Just like you

Soundgarden: Blow Up the Outside World

Nothing seems to kill me no matter how hard I try
          Nothing is closing my eyes
Nothing can beat me down for your pain or delight
And nothing seems to break me
No matter how hard I fall nothing can break me at all
Not one for giving up though not invincible I know

          I've givin' everything I need
I'd give you everything I own
I'd give in if it could at least be ours alone
          I've given everything I could
To blow it to hell and gone
          Burrow down in and
          Blow up the outside world

Someone tried to tell me something
Don't let the world get you down
Nothing will do me in before I do myself
So save it for your own and the ones you can help

          Want to make it understood
          Wanting though I never would
Trying though I know it's wrong
Blowing it to hell and gone
          Wishing though I never could
          Blow up the outside world
"I'm lost. I'm no guide, but I'm by your side." - Pearl Jam

OneBlueNatalie , I would like to draw your attention to the following in the heading at the top of Life Forum ,
Quote ''Please be gentle and respectful '' Unquote .
and to Cheesecake's [ my co-moderator in this forum ] post following your other posting of a song from this group .
Quote '' PLEASE remember that this is the life forum. If your song is strong in language, posting only the link would be appreciated.

            Thank you ''Unquote .

while I respect the right to free speech , I also feel strongly about what is acceptable in general society . until the likes of the songs you have posted are considered acceptable to be played on general radio or TV with a PG rating I would ask you to post a link for them . I am not trying to be a censor here , but feel that Life [ as its name suggests ] should be a reflection of current society standards . I have no problem with the occasional strong word sliping in here and there [ as happens in everday life ] sometimes , but would suggest that you reserve such posts for the R&S forum [ similar to real life , where to see such bands you have to go to venues who place restrictions on who are allowed in , and those who enter are aware of what they will encounter once admitted ] . some members with children read through Life Forum with their children either due to time constraints [ trying to mix time with their children and keep up to date on the site ] or to educate their children about SCI and life . I realise the responsibilty rests on the parents for what their children read [ anybody who lets their kids read R&S have no reason to complain ], but I would hate to have members who find this site very helpful [ ie SCIs and SCI caregivers/spouses etc ] turn away from here because they feel that they cannot involve their family in it . as a Doctor and Nurse [ according to what has been posted in your profile ] , I am sure you can understand my thoughts .
            thank you ,
            dogger

Dogger, I've deleted the lyrics to Peaches. Hence why I like Peaches...she's too controversial to go mainstream.

I'm just posting this song's lyrics to see if anyone actually reads them... because this has to
be the crappiest lyrics ever. It reached number one on Australian rock songs though a few
weeks back... Anyway, here is Spiderbait's Black Betty.

                  Whoa black betty bambalam
                  Yeah black betty bambalam
Black betty had a child bambalam
                  Damn thing gone wild bambalam
                  She's always ready bambalam
                  She's so rock stedy bambalam
                  Whoa black betty bambalam
                  Yeah black betty bambalam

                  Alright

                  Whoa black betty bambalam
                  Yeah black betty bambalam
What ever gets me high bambalam
Yeah you know thats no doubt bambalam
                  She's always ready bambalam
                  She's so rock steady bambalam
                  Whoa black betty bambalam
                  Yeah black betty bambalam

                  Yeah

                  Oh yeah alright (3x)
                  Oh yeah oh yeah

                  Whoa black betty bambalam
                  Yeah black betty bambalam
                  She's from birmingham bambalam
                  Way down in alabam' bambalam
Black betty had a child bambalam
                  Damn thing gone black bambalam
                  Whoa black betty bambalam
                  Yeah black betty bambalam

                  Oh yeah alright

One BlueNatalie , thank you for doing that . ''Black Betty '' is a song i like , but the original version not this one . this version runs a very poor second to the original . i think it was first done in the 70's by Ram Jam and U2 also recorded it . i'm pretty sure if you were to do a bit of research , you would find that it charted quite highly on the British charts for awhile .
                    thank you ,

                      Some great songs listed here!

Martha2--Thanks for the Simon & Garfunkle lyrics. I've always loved that song, but haven't heard it in a long time.

Cheesecake-Don't Stop Dancing is such a wonderful & moving song. Thanks for posting.

Klcmacjac-The Dance....nothing needs to be said, one of the all time best songs, I'll never get tired of listening to it.

                      My choice:
Very formative in my career choice before I ever even realized it....

                      Jackson Browne-"The Loadout/Stay"

Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They're the first to come and last to leave
                      Working for that minimum wage
They'll set it up in another town
Tonight the people were so fine
                      They waited there in line
And when they got up on their feet they made the show
                      And that was sweet--
But I can hear the sound
Of slamming doors and folding chairs
                      And that's a sound they'll never know

Now roll them cases out and lift them amps
Haul them trusses down and get'em up them ramps
'Cause when it comes to moving me
                      You guys are the champs
But when that last guitar's been packed away
You know that I still want to play
So just make sure you got it all set to go
Before you come for my piano

But the band's on the bus
                      And they're waiting to go
We've got to drive all night and do a show in Chicago
                      or Detroit, I don't know
We do so many shows in a row
And these towns all look the same
We just pass the time in our hotel rooms
                      And wander 'round backstage
Till those lights come up and we hear that crowd
And we remember why we came

Now we got country and western on the bus
R and B, we got disco in eight tracks and cassettes in stereo
We've got rural scenes & magazines
We've got truckers on the CB
We've got Richard Pryor on the video
We got time to think of the ones we love
                      While the miles roll away
But the only time that seems too short
Is the time that we get to play

People you've got the power over what we do
You can sit there and wait
Or you can pull us through
                      Come along, sing the song
You know you can't go wrong
'Cause when that morning sun comes beating down
You're going to wake up in your town
But we'll be scheduled to appear
A thousand miles away from here
People stay just a little bit longer
We want to play -- just a little bit longer
                      Now the promoter don't mind
                      And the union don't mind
If we take a little time
And we leave it all behind and sing
                      One more song--

Sunday night , just fell in the door of my house singing ''I'm in the mood for love '' after a quick 15 or 20 beers at the pub . after getting no takers for this extremely attractive offer [ which is strange since I live by myself ] , I heard the dulcet tones of John Lennon singing ''Imagine '' . feeling in a very academic mood [ beer has many magical properties ] , my mind turned to this thread and I wondered where the posts were from the baby boomers with the wonderful lyrics from the 60's [ well might be hard , because if you can remember them you weren't really there ] and the 70's . an era when world leaders were reaching towards space and world youth were already there . there was a crop of word wizards writing songs that were the pinnacle of musical brilliance [ which was a pretty fair effort , since most of them were so spaced out they couldn't remember their own names ] . I did bit of a saunter down memory lane [ i may add to this later , one of beer's drawback is that sauntering and memory don't seem to go together ] . in those golden days of social revolution we had people using the words of ''we shall not be moved '' as a weapon against tear gas and billy clubs . who will ever forget such works of art as ''McArthur Park '' [ what sort of man baked a cake (even out of the rain )in those pre feminist days ] ; offerings from Jethro Tull , like ''thick as a brick '' and ''aqualung '' [ snot running down his nose , greasy fingers rubbing shabby clothes (what a colourful word picture )] ; that immortal film footage from Woodstock that goes with Gary Phuket and the Union Gap singing ''young girl '' [ i can always easily conjure up the image of that girl letting it ( or should i say them ) all hang out ] ; who saw The Doors live [ i hope you weren't in the front row copping a golden shower from Jim Morrison ] ; the stage show of Alice Cooper ; the lyrics of David Bowie ; those fine Groups like The Beatles [ will they ever be matched ] , Slade , Led Zepplin , Status Quo ;solo acts like Jimmi Hendricks and Janis Joplin ; i could go on forever [ yeah beer does that to me ] ; even C&W got into social issues , eg ''a boy named Sue '' [ about single parenting ] . I have only touched the tip of the iceberg and look forward to others posting lyrics from what was perhaps the most interesting period of modern music .
                        thank you ,
                        dogger

                          Hi Dogger,

I hear what you are saying so here is one tune for you from the large Beatles catalog. I considered posting a song or two from the 60-70's but there are so many great tunes/lyrics. I am a big Beatles fan and John Lennon fan as well. Nah, they will never be matched... Blackbird

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
                          All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
                          All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.

                          Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

                          Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night

Dogger, here is another classic for you. Do they write lyrics like this anymore? This was heavy .........

                            P. Simon, 1964

                            Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
                            Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
                            Still remains
                            Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
                            Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turn my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
                            That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
                            Ten thousand people maybe more
                            People talking without speaking
                            People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never shared
                            No one dared
                            Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools," said I, "you do not know
                            Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway
                            walls
                            And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence

Here is a song from the 70's. I was in highschool and it seemed romantic.

                              Jackson Brown

                              UNDER THE FALLING SKY

Warm and lovely mystery, fire smiling through
Before this moment fades away I want to know you
I've got lightening in my pocket, thunder in my shoe
Have no fear I've got something here I want to show you

                              Low, under the falling sky
                              Easily we will lie
While I bring it to you

It's a low road, a high wire going from me to you
And in your eyes the distance left is closing
I've got a feeling in my oceans
                              Blood underneath my skin
That into your bright fields this prison is opening

                              Low, under the falling sky
                              Easily we will lie
While I bring it to you

Our shadows wake each day though they don't know why
They hope and try -- live and die
So leave them in their frozen world
                              Come and be my lover
If only for one stolen moment
                              We will live forever

Warm and lovely mystery, can you hear the choir?
Voices can no longer hold my desire
Abandon your sad history and meet me in the fire
Our angels wait to take us higher and higher
                              Higher and higher

                              Low, under the falling sky
                              Easily we will lie
While I bring it to you

"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles"....C. Reeve 1998

Every day I wake up is a good one

                                oh peace train sounding louder
                                glide on the peace train

why can't we live in bliss
