Ryebread I realise this might be more appropriate in one of your other pressure sore threads but since this is current, has anybody ever entertained the thought that given your previous history that you should remain off your sores a few weeks longer then what's usuall recomended, might memory might be faulty but it seems your history is you have a sore, it heals, you get back up under the usual regime of increments, resume regular life and then you're back down again with a sore again. The SCI nurses obviously can comment with their expertise but I wonder if your skin has taken so much abuse that it might just take longer then the norm to heal?

I understand what you're saying. I would totally agree with you but this sore is in a not so high-pressure area. When you look at the pressure mapping it's not a pressure spot at all. I'll have to try to find a picture to show you guys. I know I have one somewhere. It was caused by something be punched up under my trochanter. Right now I stay completely off it except for when I sit up in bed to eat. Unfortunately I can't handle being on my side for more than 25 min. before my pain gets too high. Arthritis in my left hip and a sore shoulder on my right side really hold me back there. I saw a picture yesterday and it looks much much much better than it did before. The doctors thinking another month and it will be all healed up. Now I just need to find a place to live down by the college so I can get back on track with getting a courier going.C-5/6, 7-9-2000

no I'm not. I was living in an apartment by myself when I got a massive sore on my sacrum that required me to go home. It came about mainly because I was about 100 pounds overweight so that one was nasty. I went back to my room at my parents house which used to be the garage many years ago and was my room out of rehab 12 years ago. My grandparents in San Francisco had both passed away so my aunt and my mom got to split the money they got for selling the house. They. Off some bills and with $100,000 of that money they were able to build my house from the ground up. Scottsdale is kind of the rich part of Phoenix and all of the homes are put on 1 acre property. There was plenty of room for us to build the house so in 2007 I got to move in. We spoke today and once I get some caregiver situations worked out I'll be able to go back home until I find a place down by the colleges that teach engineering and drafting.C-5/6, 7-9-2000

Promise me. When you think you're healed, STAY OFF IT FOR 2 MORE MONTHS! I'm at home w/ my dog, thank God, but if I get up on this burn I won't be for long. You've been on this merry-go-round forever. Quit rushing it!
And you hate living w/ fam, right? Bounce back there for a while but don't get stuck. The depression is as bad for your skin as the pressure imo. Also nutrition nutrition nutrition. I'm late to this skin game but I'm not playing. Use satin sheets. Keep real fur under your butt. Eliminate all shear, heat and pressure where possible!Last edited by betheny; 24 Apr 2013, 5:42 PM.

What Betheny said! I'm currently in bed with my first 'big' sore but staying off it I can already see the light at the end of this bed. And unless that doc that said you can get up some is in a wheelchair himself I'd get another opinion.Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."

I have healed several ischial sores sitting on them all day.One was 6 cm deep.. I am able to clear my butt every few minutes I use Roho Quadtro HP and keep circulation flowing to allow wound to heal.
Lying in bed all day does not allow blood to flow well enough to provide adequate circulation to heal wounds. Feel of your legs and buttocks when lying on your side. You will notice how cool they feel.
Sitting up is best thing for sacral wounds imo because of increased circulation. I had surgical debridment of sacral wound 4 yrs ago,and it healed in 3 weeks with me sitting up per surgeons advice.
If your cushion is doing it's job, getting up short intrervals is ok with every doctor that's treated me,
Same old story being told again. In '82,I icshial wound 6 cm deep.It was clean, and I worked full time sitting on it. Wound healed in 2 mos.My doctor was amazed and credited my cushion. The cushion and good circulation facilitated by my rolling and pressure relief every 3-5 minutes allowed the wound to heal as opposed to lying in bed and missing work. Being young and healthy did not hurt either.
Ryan, with your history and lack of triceps,I'm in agreement with you taking extra precautions. Your skin has been compromised by the numerous flap surgeires. Have you been accepted to ASU? Have you got approval from DVR for tuition etc You must apply for Pell grant. Are you going to have to take any remedial courses?
Back to your sore, why not try a colostomy until your skin has healed? Feces promotes growth of bacteria and infection. It is rather simple to reverse if want to do it after you heal?Last edited by Handsome Wheeler; 26 Apr 2013, 2:42 PM.
