Thank you all. I didn't want to make a big deal out of this. My mother was 84, and had suffered from PPMS since 1980...she put up the good fight, and lived life in spite of it, but in the end, I think that is what killed her. Her EDSS score had been 9.5 for some time. She had been in a fairly rapid decline since last Christmas, both cognitively and with her functional abilities. Not sure she recognized me by September.
When she stopped eating and drinking completely, my sister and I (who had her DPOA for Healthcare) decided not to institute either IV or tube feeding as we felt she would not want this, and engaged hospice. She died at home in the early hours of 11/16/12 with me holding her hand, and my sister & bro-in-law and her live-in PCA at her side.
I will miss her terribly, but I know she is in a better place. I like to think of her dancing with my father (who died in 2008), as they often did when I was young.
(KLD)The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

Am I so sorry to hear the news, KLD has always been a great help on her, I wish her the best and comforting times aheadWe must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.
