Will someone beat me?

In the June issue of Paraplegia News there is an announcement indicating they are looking for the longest surviving quad. I am not submitting my name but will be watching future issues with interest to see if someone beats my 56+ years. There is a related CC thread and no one surpassed me. I will not be surprised if I get beat. I recently learned of a LMN para in South Carolina who was injured in 1952. She is now a grandmother. She was rehabed at the Rusk Institute and was partially ambulatory for several years. I am trying to locate her so we can get together and reminisce a bit.

I am not entering the PVA competition, preferring not to have my name out there in public view for you all to see. Now if they were offering a big prize..lol

New member spazzy_kuntz has been in a chair since '44. That's what his profile says. I don't know what put him in the chair. I don't think he's quadriplegic, though. You might be the winner 55.

I use to have an old Spinal Network book from the late 80s that mentioned a dude from Florida that was in his early 80s and was 60+ years post SCI, I believe. I'm guessing he's no longer around.

Does anyone else remember reading about him in that book? I'm sorry I don't recall anymore than that but it's been 20 years since I read about him.

You have me beaten by 11 years, and I have a quad friend who is probably at the 50 year post SCI mark, but I think you just might win if you entered. I understand why you might not want to enter though. Doesn't matter, as all of us here already think of you as a winner and a hell of a nice guy! Consider yourself awarded!
