When my husband got hurt, I swore I wouldn't even remember the date... whatever. We celebrated the first year by going to Disney World! (It was so awesome!) and the next couple of anniversaries came and went. The third one, neither of us even realized until near the end of the day. We've decided to try and go back to Disney every five years (at least!) and we don't even have kids. Anyway, blessings Anna and make the best of what you have!

Sorry I had to comment.... This PISSES ME OFF!!!!!

On a different note..... CONGRATS on the 2 year mark Anna!!! You absolutely have a right to celebrate and be thankful no matter what certain people might say!

Congrats, Anna! I found the most closure @ 3 years. I'd hoped the 4th would be even better but it came this month & illness prevailed. I still look forward to 5 and so on, it's a day to reflect. If pessimistic, you reflect on the bad but I prefer to be optimistic & do so on the good stuff. It's a roller-coaster all year long but I find serenity on my anniversary. I usually try to party like a rockstar. The weekend's coming, not too late to plan something!

If people choose to celebrate, why should it bother you? Being "sick" is being critical of someone else's happiness and just plain nasty.
And no, not everyone gets through it. Many of the people here came very close to not surviving their accidents or surgeries. A lot of people die.
We found the first anniversary of Dave's accident bittersweet as I am sure many here do.

Its very surprising to me that the only person who thinks the idea of celebrating, reflecting, etc.... is sad is YOU. Now why do you think that is??

Anna -- congratulations on the 2-year mark! My son just passed the three year mark. We celebrate each year -- kind of a kudos to him for perservering, working hard and living life to the fullest. I think every day should be embraced and celebrated. I agree that the after about a 1.5-2 years is the over the hump point and things get easier.

              Bravo to you!
Ugh, I've been kissed by a dog!

thanks guys.. I hope mv is right "99% make it without even trying", but I guess I'm a one-percenter because I've had my struggles.

mv- are you aware what a spinal cord injury actually is?

Just speaking from my experience and with talking to the people on this site... most find themselves having to "try" very hard at one time or another after an SCI. So , I think mv is grossly mistaken in his statistics!

Thanks everyone for your encouragements!! I think I do agree with those of you who say it's good to acknowledge everything you've overcome since your injury. Don't get me wrong I am very great full to be alive and want to keep overcoming life's challenges. I just miss doing the things I used to do. There is not a day that goes by that I wish I could just wake up and start walking again.

Tonight I went out with my pt who is also a good friend. I got some pushing in and then we went out for ice cream.

Then don't fucking read this thread! Not a difficult solution. She didn't say she was doing cartwheels and throwing a goddamn party, she merely expressed that the two-year mark had come and she's still alive and kicking it, now if only her leg could reach Denmark and your ass.

and you are also pathetic mv740. Go back and wallow in your own misery if that is what you chose to do. I hope things get better for you, really I do.
