Jerry, it wouldn't hurt to give your local Center for Independent Living a call. They often can tap into accessible housing.

      Hey Hip,

Jerry is working with the NC CIL and Disability Solutions just jumped in too. Like many states Florida also has a huge back log on HUD and section 8 housing but Jerry is going through the application process and then some.

If anyone knows of a reasonably accessible, reasonably inexpensive small house in the outer areas of Gainesville please post it to the Florida Forum and PM Jerry. With all the members we have in Florida adding a ramp and a fence shouldn't be too difficult if we can just find a house that will take 2 very well behaved dogs and a responsible tenent.

Please post further ideas, including other parts of Florida, on that forum.

      Sue

OK, first I had to look it up on a map too. Any members in the Dixie County, Florida area? Not sure yet which direction Jerry's permanent home will be headed but he prefers the rural area to Gainesville. Any help in that area would be great.

          Jerry:
If you read this, please PM or call me at the 800# tomorrow. Mark has some good rural leads.

I am concerned, can you check in with someone please?

Glad to hear things are looking better! We have some very amazing long-term members here who go way above and beyond to help out here at CareCure.

I really hope it all works out and don't be afraid to ask for help! We don't get through life without a life-line every now and then!

If there is a CareCure member in Dixie County FL or close by, I could use a hand in helping Jerry. If you would PM me, I can tell you what I need help with.

There is a great Independent Living Center that has been helping, the director and consumer specialist are both C5/6 quads so they understand the need.

Jerry is a great guy in a rough situation, causes me to really stop and wonder just how many folks are one step away.

In FL because of the budget and cutbacks, there is almost no help available, it is really a shame.

Because I can't figure out how to change a threads name, in the Florida Forum sticky on CILs there are also links now to a few pet related sites that offer everything from free spay/neuter, low cost vet care, free pet food for pick up or delivered to your home depending on county, info on free pet antibiotics, etc.

Many states realize that the family pets are also hurting from foreclosures and the recession. Most have programs to help with dog food, emergency vet care and low cost or free spay neuter programs for cats and dogs of all ages. Reading the Orlando, Fl areas SPCA site they have spayed or neutered so many cats and dogs that you can now measure it in tax dollars not spent killing them at over crowded animal controls.
