peegy, there are two ways of putting pictures on this site. One is to link the picture from somewhere else on internet. The second is to attach a picture to the post. The pictures need to be in jpeg format. Let me discuss each in turn. In order to show the commands on the screen, I replaced all square brackets, i.e. "[" and "]" with the squiggly brackets "{" and "}". When you use the actual commands, convert the squiggly to square.

1. Linking pictures from else where on internet. There is an image command that allows you to display an .jpg, .gif, or .png picture elsewhere on internet in your posts. To do so, you simply type {img}URL{/img}, where URL is the internet address of the specific picture. To get the URL of an image that you see on internet, you need to CTRL click the picture and select open new window until you get a browser window that has only the jpg picture in it. Copy that URL address, which usually should have .jpg or .jpeg in the address, and put it in the img command. Occasionally, the image may link to something else but you use a dropdown menu to select image location. So, for example, the like to the CareCure logo on our site is {img}/carecurelogo.jpg{/img}. If I replace the squiggly brackets with square brackets, it would embed the image in this post. [img]/carecurelogo.jpg[/img]

Alternatively, there is a little icon button [img]/forum/images/editor/insertimage.gif[/img] that you can press and then paste the URL address into. This will essentially add the command to your post.

2. Attaching a picture file to your post. If you are using the long form of the post, there is a section called "Additional Options" below the text entry box. Under that section, there is a button called [Manage Attachments]. If you select that button, it will allow you to attach a picture file that is on your disc to your post. If it is a picture file with the filename extension of .gif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, or .png and there is one picture, that picture will display on the post. If you have more than one picture, it will just show the icons of the files that people can dowload.

Attachments will only allow you to display one picture and it will always be at the end of the post. The img command allows you to post as many pictures as you want and it is embedded in the text. How do you get a picture file that you have on your disc onto internet, if you don't have access to a server? Well, one way is to post the picture as an attachment in another forum and then select the URL of that picture. I have set up a forum called web links that you can use for this purpose. But the sake of example, let me link to an attached picture that I have just posted in the Members Pictures forum /forum/showthread.php?p=1042497#post1042497

You can also upload pictures from your computer or any website to Photobucket and it will provide you many different ways to post a picture. All you have to do is create an account and you can upload quite a few, that's where I go to put pictures I embed in a post that are my pictures. Also, if you have Firefox, you can right click on a picture and select "Copy Image Location" and it will copy the direct image hyperlink. I'm not sure if Internet Explorer has that are not, I haven't used it in years. then you can select the insert picture icon up top and enter your picture link there.
