    Research!America is a advocacy organization that has carried polls for over 10 years to find out how much Americans support research. While the 2006's results again indicate strong positive support for more research, support for more research funding was only 51% The following poll used telephone to survey about 1000 adults, age 18 or higher, and with an error of ±3%. The results are as follows:

    • Americans want more medical and health research. A majority of 58% want increased funding, 27% thought that the funding was sufficient, and 5% didn't know.

    • When the question was asked about health-research to manage healthcare costs, a lower number 51% wanted increased funding, 41% thought that the funding was sufficient, 5% thought it should be lower, and 3% said that they did not know.

    • When they were asked whether the 2007 budget should increased for more medical and health research, only 51% wanted to increase funding, 43% felt that the current funding should be maintained, 3% thought the funding should be lowered, and 3% did not now.

    Finally, people were asked concerning their trust of different organizations. The Military heads the list with 77%, Medical Community was 69%, Scientific Community was 68%, Organized Religion was 58%, Corporations were 35%, Congress was 32%, and Media were 29%.

    This is a very interesting statistic. When you think about it, though, it shouldn't come as a surprise.
