Recently learned that Medicare is in the 'public comment' phase of reviewing whether Seat Elevation Systems will be covered as an accessory to a power wheelchair. Public comment is a short period of time that Medicare accepts public comments on this, and I believe it's early March - which is near.
If you feel that Medicare should cover seat elevation on power wheelchairs please respond with your comments ASAP. Without Medicare coverage, the power wheelchair user will cover the cost of the elevation system if they want or need it. (About 14 years ago I paid $3,000 for the system on my Permobile, while Medicare paid for the chair itself).
I don't remember the exact site for comments but you may find it by Googling: National Coverage Analysis then,
Seat Elevation Systems as an Accessory to Power Wheelchairs (Group 3)
There was also the notation CAG-00461N
I know this sounds complicated but I submitted my comment emphasizing the need for coverage due to the importance of safe gravity transfers either by oneself or with assistance. There may be other benefits you have. In short it is hopeful that Medicare will recognize the needs of disabled persons using power wheelchairs and pay for this accessory.
