LOL - just googled it, and about the only thing that came up was 'that's the way it's always been done'!

I don't know where you buy your butter, but the butter I see in the grocery stores does have a safety seal on it.

Great question, I have no idea.

You and your boyfriend have way too much free time on your hands.

            Hope you find the answer,
            Dave

jimnms, I'm referring to the butter in "tubs". Here in Illinois at any store, any brand, there are no safety seal.

The tubs we buy have a plastic seal around it that has to be pealed off in order to open it, and the sticks are sealed in a box.

                      jimnms-
she means an airtight safety seal, not a lid. like sour cream has the foil seal, milk has the peal-away seal, pudding, chips, cookies, sodas, everything has some kind of seal.

frogs- maybe butter never goes bad like other things do after you break the seal. that's my guess.

I went to the store again Monday and I remembered this conversation. I sat my ass in the dairy section and opened every butter tub I could find.

All of the smaller size tubs either had a plastic seal around it so that you can't open it, or a foil seal under the lid. Only one didn't have any seal at all, and it was the large tub of Country Crock.

I finally had to get moving when I heard over the intercom a call for security to scan and record all sections.
