I've been finding that olive oil, a lot of it, is an effective stool softener. Much better than docusate sodium which had no effect.
However, it is hard to eat that much olive oil - lots and lots and lots of pasta - and, more importantly, I am not really sure at all that the olive oil is what is having that effect. I get very good olive oil and like it any way.
