Some women do choose to use an indwelling urethral catheter during pregnancy, although it does increase your risks for UTIs (which is also a higher risk just due to pregnancy). Some women continue to do urethra self intermittent cath, but this can be difficult the last trimester (reaching is hard enough without that big belly!). You may need help.
Some women have had a Mitrofanoff to allow them to do intermittent cath themselves through a stoma on their abdomen, which is much easier for a woman. This can be continued during pregnancy for many, but it is advisable that your urologist be present for your delivery, as if an emergency C-section is needed, it will be important to not damage the Mitrofanoff tract. Some urologists are reluctant to do a Mitrofanoff until after a woman has completed her childbearing, but that is a preference of theirs, and is not common to all urologists.
