• My failure at FES

I was on a trial with the energy2 or synergy2 or whatever it is, the max output at 80. I only went for 9 seconds and then nada.

Is this typical for everyone's first time?

I think that is about average. When starting the first time I went ten minutes, for three times a week. Then added 5 min each week. After a month I was going 25 min with ease, but the first 10 min session was tough.

This time (after a 1 1/2 year lay off) I am cheating by assisting with hands on knees for 5 min intervals. So I am doing 25 min after the 3rd sesion. It still wipes me out and I get a good duration.

IS NOW A SUCCESS!

I went 20 minutes on 140 max stim!

They will let me come in twice a week for a thirty minute session. It's only $62 a month!

Huge quadriceps HERE I COME!
My glutes will be rock by next summer!

SWEEEEEET!

Joe - This is fantastic news! There are nothing like the many benefits of FES. Way to go. And that's a good deal. Where are you going?

Magee has three energy/synergy machines
and even though I have issues with its administration, my PT is a great gal and has my back. They usually don't allow the aides there to set you up, but I think she is trying to work
something out. A lot of rules, but I am stoked!

That is great!

BTW, I think the machines are probably Ergys machines.

How do you find a place that does this?

If it boasts to be one of the 16 model SCI units in the country, they should. But a phone call to see if they have an electronic stim bike would be best.

University of Michigan is a model center and they don't have one!

We tried it at a private facility but they do not allow outside people to use them regularly (they are an inpatient only facility). Next is to see of insurance will pay...unlikely since they didn't pay for the three session trial, but we will give it a shot. It worked so well for him.

How do you find out if there are any facilities near you that has a FES bike? I don't live near a model SCI facility.

When you call, just ask them if they have an electrical stimulation bike for spinal cord injury patients. It might be FES, NES etc, but if they don't know ask to speak to a PT.

I might start off by calling the manufacturers. Find out if they have clients are who are local to you.

Electrologic has centers listed @ http://www.stimmaster.com/centers.html. You can reach them @ (800) 758-3460

Therapeutic Alliances, who makes the Ergys, can be reached at (937) 879-0734. Also, http://www.musclepower.com/product2.htm

just my $0.03 (inflation)

Are any of you now noticing increased heaviness of legs? Are any of you incomplete with feeling? Hows that going with the bike?
Thanks!
