Need some thoughts regarding deteriorating/ weakening muscle

    Hi all,

I am a T7 incomplete 35 years post injury(55 years old). Recently (last 5 years ) I've my plantar flexion has gotten more and more difficult. I use that foot to drive using only the accelerator, I use a hand brake for braking. I keep thinking it's because my tendons have gotten tighter through the years. So now i'm beginning to stretch them. I've been going to a Rehab place that doesn't really quite know what to do. I'm also thinking maybe some FES? if FES, any recommendations? any thoughts from anyone here would be appreciated!

Have you been evaluated for a syrinx? Any sensory loss in your legs where you previously had good sensation?

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

I have not but there's no loss of sensation at all. the strength is there but it just feels like when I lift my foot , its really tight. and since im not as active as I was when I was young, I work it out less.

I think you need to see a good neurologist who can determine if you have developed some peripheral neuropathy. The problem may be with the cord or the peripheral nerve, and FES is a possible treatment IF you don't have some type of peripheral neuropathy.

FES may not be the best treatment. You need to find what is causing it first; thus seeing a neurologist is first. (KLD)

I have an Empi 300. It came very highly recommended by some SCI focused OTs. I don't know if this model is still available.
