We’re fortunate to have input from nurses in this group and we’ve recently also gained input from an SCI researcher. I seem to find myself with lots of questions relating to exercise and physical therapy. Some questions are practical while others are just curiosity, I guess. (Does the texture or temperature of pool water hike up one’s spasticity and should we ignore it or treat it? Is it weird or normal that my legs become markedly more obedient after paddling back and forth for an hour? Following from that, does it make sense to have a “land” PT visit with legs that aren’t cooperative? How do you determine the sweet spots with timing and duration of exercise?, etc, etc). Maybe there are just weird things that aren’t understood and we should just play with individually but if there’s some general experience, I’d love the input. Though I’ve gone to PT many times over these past 27 years, I feel like it’s been too rare that I’ve actually had my questions answered. I’ve never been to a facility specializing in neuro so maybe that’s why? Anyhow, is there a way for us within this group to recruit a PT to add their two cents here and there?

Can we recruit a PT?

I have personally tried several times to find a PT or OT willing to be a moderator on these forums, without success. Not sure if Jim or Dr. Young have an interest in this. It can be hard to find health care professionals who will volunteer their time for something they get paid to do otherwise, even if retired (3 of the 4 SCI-Nurses are retired). We had an OT member at one time, but he no longer visits this site.
(KLD)The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.
