  • Rocking chair for leg / core exercise?

I've been thinking a rocking chair might help things. If I sit in one I can rock using both my legs and core, but I've never really tried it consistently. My thing is I don't want to ask someone to help me transfer unless I know what I'm doing will be beneficial. I was thinking sittin in the rocking chair and putting my feet up on a footstool might allow me to get more of a total gym like movement and be a way to strengthen and stretch my legs. Thoughts or ideas?

    Thank you.,

Interesting idea. Depending on how strong you are you could add weights in your lap or on the chair to increase the resistance.

That's a very interesting idea - a variation on a rowing machine, almost. I can see how it would be a safe way to build core strength and gently work the legs.

when I have gotten in other chairs for exercise I always seem to slip down with my effort, would some kind of waist strap around the chair be the answer?

That would work, you could also try using a wheelchair cushion to sit on.

My husband wears a back brace that closes with Velcro in front - if the back of your rocking chair is made with slats or dowels, you could wrap a brace around them in order to fashion a harness that would keep you in place. My husband wears a Royal Posture brace, but there are many similar ones available at Wal-Mart, Amazon, etc. For reference: royalposture.com

I saw the royal posture brace and wondered if it would help me sit up straight. While wearing it does he still function as well or does it limit his movements?
