Activity and Chronic Spinal Cord Injury
Rebecca Martin, OTR/L, OTD & Beth Myers, PT, DPT, CKTP, Kennedy Krieger Institute
Activity-based restorative therapy continues to gain in popularity. By combining progressive interventions with a focus on restoration of function lost to paralysis, ABRT has proven to have a significant impact on patients function and quality of life. As we learn more about the importance of activity in relation to the mechanisms that underlie neural recovery, we have refined the interventions associated with ABRT. In this talk, we will discuss the scientific basis and key therapeutic components of ABRT. We will highlight outcomes from the past 10 years of work at the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury, focusing on the capacity of structured activity to make meaningful incremental changes in patients with chronic SCI, and provide insight on the future direction for progressive rehabilitation.

    My SCI App
Jon Read, Founder of Keet Your Patient Companion in Physical Therapy
Following his own surgical and therapy experience, Jon began crafting the system that served as the basis for Keet. Originally aimed at solving his personal issues with his therapy experience, Keet has quickly expanded to being the most advanced patient management tool available to physical therapists today with the guidance of thought leaders in the field. Having conducted hundreds of patient interviews and 250+ hours of clinical observations, the platform was designed from the ground up to improve efficiencies within the existing workflow and provide patients with exceptional support outside of the clinic. The Keet system will serve as the basis for mySCI. Jon leads a team of developers with a combined 80 years of experience. The Keet platform is also being used in orthopedic applications and has been well received by industry leaders. Through his experience Jon has gained an understanding the technical needs of a program designed for rehabilitation, including the HIPPA and compliance tracking issues central to the mySCI application.
