  • Recommended exercises for a quad?

I'm a C 4-5 complete and I'm looking for some exercises I can do at home. Living in a small rural community there isn't really any outside resources where I can go to exercise and as I'm getting older I need to start doing something to keep up my good health.
Thankfully I was blessed with good genes and for the most part I've been healthy for up to 30 years I've had my SCI but the last few years I've started to put on weight and that's not only no good for myself but my caregivers.

If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them even if it means building a redneck workout machine. . :-)

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

Getting a hand cycle would be a great investment. Another relatively simple idea would be to get some hand weights- they have ones that can Velcro around your wrists if your grip is affected, and do some seated upper body/shoulder exercises. If you'd like to achieve more of a cardio effect get lighter weights and do high repetition at a faster speed.
