    Returning a powerchair

This is a new one. I previously wrote about my saga with the Quickie M300 Mini, and the dismal battery life. They're smaller, but I was getting only 4-5 miles on a full charge. So for the past 8 months it really limited my life, couldn't really go far, and I love to hike and road trip, walk my dogs far. It is nice and small, but low to the ground clearance, too. So it is made for "in the home" and not a lot of out and about. They're having me give it back and get the 700. It's HUGE. I really really don't want it, as if I was going bigger I would stay with Permobil. But now I can't, I have to get this chair, or keep the faulty one. For five years. Ugh. They said there's a slim to none chance to get Medicaid to fund a new chair, but not with them, I'd have to go somewhere else. I think they're fed up, even though it's not my fault. Happens a lot. Problems with a chair, makes me a pain in the butt and they are annoyed with me. Vicious cycle. I just want a decent chair, that fits me and my life. This 700 is so big. In my van I'll have to deploy the lift to even turn around, and it's a camper transit van! Also huge. WHY can't they make chairs have a smaller footprint and have power??

Have you considered a ZR--1 and a manual chair?

Off-road it runs on the front castors, so you need relatively big ones if you're running in soft dirt, etc, but with 4" ones I have no problems.
It has a small turning radius.
Lead battery life sucks; you'll want to find a pair of 12 LIPo batteries (there's a thread nearby).
The XZ-1 would be great in a camper. It's so easy to attach/detach, then you have the much better maneuverability of the manual chair.
It's a great compromise without a lot of compromise!

The ZR-1 is very slow. I want power for hiking off road with the dogs when I travel and such. So it turns out that it is pretty nice! I got it last night, and to my surprise it can turn around on a dime in the van, the center of gravity is perfect. It's big, but smooth and comfortable. So I think it'll work out good yay.

Ha! I want to win the lottery and get a Batec. With a Hands on Concepts custom tweaked out chair. All together about the price of a compact car!

Was going to order another ZX-1 from my DME but when I found out they cancelled the Litium battery option I cancelled it. Will have to check out the replacement battery suggestions Pat wrote about. I am on my second one and relly like the ability to connect up; go where I need to go and disconnect to be in my manual again. The lithium batteries are starting to show their age.
