    Smartdrive / Apple watch app

Anyone else using the apple watch app? I have found that the double-tap-off does not always respond. A second one sometimes, though rarely, also. Generally it is better than the other wrist options but it freaks me out every time.

There is a setting in the configuration app that you can use to adjust how sensitive the tap response is. Does that help make it more reliable? I still use the old PushTracker, but needed to play with that setting a bit to get it to work consistently for my taps.

I have had this happen as well. The sensitivity settings help some, but don't completely eliminate it. It happens more frequently to me when I am trying to stop quickly and therefore double tap quickly. If I try to stop half a second sooner so that I can tap slower and more deliberately, it seems to help. Even though this can be annoying, the battery life of the apple watch compared to the google watch the smartdrive comes with is so worth it.

I dislike the double tap option. The difficulty adjusting the speed on the go is not good. Double tap to start, then tap to hold speed, then you realize you're leaving your friend behind and have to double tap to slow down, double tap to start again, and tap again to hold speed. If all the taps read proper you can do it but to have to constantly repeat the technique is stupid. If one tap fails to register, you stop rolling, your friend stops walking and stares at you, the people behind you are passing you, and you look super stupid sitting there tapping your wheel instead of pushing. Also had problems with false starts because I apparently flail my arms around when sitting in elevators and waiting in lines. That's a different story thouugh.

I tried the speed dial and I absolutely love it. It's a true throtle that allows you to adjust speed on the fly. No tap tap. No watch.

Do you leave the speed dial on your chair all the time? If so, does it get in the way of anything you do in your chair? Where do you keep the end that plugs into the smart drive if you don't have the smart drive on your chair? I really like the idea of having a throttle that can be manually adjusted like that.

Yes the speed dial stays on the chair. They provide a little steel L bracket you mount and the magnetic plug end sticks to it when not using smartdrive.

The only negatives for me would be the dial is a little bulky and mounts in front of the seat right where wheel locks are. And some folks use that space on the frame as a grab spot to transfer so that may be problematic.

But with that said, I use D's locks, single lever, and have the speed dial and brake lever on the same side and it works great.

Darn. The speeddial is $210 + tax and shipping. It looks better, but for that price range I'm getting an apple watch.

Can anyone speak to the battery life of the apple watch when using the smartdrive?

My watch lasts all day with the smartdrive. I have an apple watch SE. No problems with battery life at all.

I use D's locks as well and would want the dial on the same side as my lever. But that would mean it would have to go on my frame in front of my cushion, which like you said is where I grab for transfers. I may try taping something about the size of the dial to my frame to get an idea of how much of a hindrance it would be.

That's a good idea. It did change the way I engage my locks which, like any change in chair setup, sucked at first. But I got use to it.

My setting is maximum sensitivity. It happens in a random circumstances but often when wanting 'off' after a short distance. There's a kerb cut I need to use that has a sharp turn not far from the top. Other similar places. But also happens wanting to stop after a longer distance.

Yes battery life of the watch makes it the go-to device. My watch it a hand-me-down and is reliable for a full day even after being unused for a week switched off.
