What's the widest tire I could fit on my 24" wheels?

I have a spare set of wheels that I would like to use exclusively for our beachfront cabin. I don't know much about how the tire measurements work, but would like to buy the widest set of tires possible for a set of 24" spinergy wheels. I figure that between that and the freewheel I should be a bit more mobile on the packed sand and gravel. Where would I order these tires, and how would I know if they fit?
    Thanks everyone!

You should be able to run a 2.50 width tire, go with a folding bead(if possible), they are much lighter. I don't use 24's, think your selection of wide folding beads might be limited in that size, a bike shop would be a good place to ask.

On these Spinergy 24" (540mm diameter) there's not so much choice...
I think the widest is the Kenda "Nevegal" 24x2.10 knobby, very nice for hard outdoor use, and you can also find Kenda "knobby's" 24x2.0 with coloured sides and a more allround pattern. I think you can ask online Bike-On, Sportaid or others.

a quick look at the schwalbe site looks like 37-540 is their widest tire.

This might be the widest you find for a 24inch/540mm wheel
http://www.sportaid.com/kenda-wide-k...-sidewall.html You can probably get same tires or maybe have a choice of tires at bike-on.com and I think they price match. If you find a wider one let me know

I agree with Robotnik, The Kenda tires will work. the 24x 2.10 should work. That's what I run on my 24's when I go to the beach. I have not used the free wheel combo. However I have a friend who uses that same set up. Say's it works great for him. Unless you get into the really soft deep sand.

These ae the widest 24" tyre I could find when looking for a new tyre for my One-Off: http://www.halowheels.com/products/part/TYHAC430

I did not use this in the widest end as knobs on the tread were going to just contact the derailleur in the lowest gear. I used these instead: http://www.halowheels.com/products/part/TYHAC426 (24 x2.6)

Are these 507 mm or 540 mm I wish websites would list the size in mm since there are at least three different sizes that are refered to as 24 inch

Thanks all for your replies! Looks like the Kenda Nevegal is the surest way to go, since the halo tire size is a bit vague.
