This Girl Has A Huge Smile On Her Face.....New Wheelchair Cushion Coming

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share my happiness, and excitement. I'm getting a new wheelchair cushion for my manual wheelchair, and it's going to be the same one as I have in my power wheelchair. Which is a Stimulite Contoured honeycomb cushion.

Even though it's a fairly expensive wheelchair cushion, and my primary insurance will not be able to cover for it because it's for my manual wheelchair. It'll be worth every penny of what I get from my disability income to get it. Because of the comfort, support, and the fact that it doesn't cause me any pain/discomfort like the gel, and the foam ones that I've had in the previous years have after a few months of use. I am so excited. My seating specialist came out and measured my manual wheelchair, and he's going to order the new cushion for me.

He said that because my insurance won't approve it because of it being for my manual wheelchair. It shouldn't take long for him to order it, and for it to get to me.

I wanted to be a giver more than a receiver for Christmas this year as I wasn't really expecting much for a Christmas present. But, the new wheelchair cushion will be my Christmas present since I've already bought my family and friends their Christmas gifts, and shipped them out to them.

So, in about two weeks. My new cushion should be here. I can't wait!!!!

Is it XS extra soft? That is a 25 dollar upcharge for some insane reason. I have one on order too. I hope I get what I asked for as it's going through insurance and DME.
I have had periodic paralysis all my life. I lost my ability to walk in 2011 beginning with a spinal block, which was used for a hip fracture caused by periodic paralysis.

Yes it is. I'm never going back to gel, or foam cushions again. Even though I don't spend a whole lot of time in my manual wheelchair except for when Dan and I go somewhere with my mom. Or, we go somewhere with our support provider, and her daughter. Having the second Stimulite Contoured XS seat cushion in my manual wheelchair will make my manual wheelchair comfortable for those long periods of sitting time when I do have to use my manual wheelchair.

I hope you enjoy your new cushion. Being comfortable in a wheelchair no matter how many hours you use it is definitely important. I'm so happy that Supracor came up with such a great cushion. I can see why so many wheelchair users love it.

They told me four weeks. Maybe because of the size 17X17, but it seems to me they should stock those anyway.

I just ordered a 17x17 sport a week ago and it should be here Thursday. I hope there are no delays because I can't stand my current cushion!

                    nonoise,

Regarding "... XS extra soft? That is a 25 dollar upcharge ..." - it is a $15 option from here.

Regarding "... four weeks. Maybe because of the size 17X17 ..." - a 17x17 Stimulite Contoured cushion is listed as taking approximately the same delivery time as other Stimulite Contoured sizes.

Me neither. In fact I was at the Brownsville Country Music Festival this summer with my best friend, her mom, and my husband Dan. I got my first real test of just how comfortable the cushion is when I had to sit in it for nine hours straight. That's the longest I've ever had to sit in my power chair. And compared to the gel, and foam cushions I've had. I wasn't in any pain with the Stimulite cushion more than I was in pain with the gel, and foam wheelchair cushions.

I love the extra soft version of the cushion because I have a couple of bony areas on my back, and bottom. Sitting on it doesn't make it seem as hard as cushions usually are.

I love it too. I can sit in my power chair for longer periods of time. About 10 hours per day when I'm out and about, and not be in so much pain. That's a lot more than the amount of time I was sitting in it when I had the gel cushion in it. I can get out of my wheelchair when I need to. But, it's wonderful having such a great wheelchair cushion that has worked so well for me. I do hope that because my manual wheelchair has a smaller seat length than in my power wheelchair. That I can fit the new Stimulite cushion in my washer when I need to wash it. We shall see.

Thanks WC, I think my DME is getting it direct from Supracor as my insurance approved reimbursement. Two week turn around would be nice.

On a hot day the honeycomb can just be hosed off and left out to dry. I know it says washer and dryer, but not me. It's the cover on my old one that is falling apart. Be gentle with the *plastic* zipper.

What does "flat or sling bottom" mean? http://www.supracor.com/products/show/108
See right side list second to last bullet point. I don't know what has been ordered or even what type I have other than it's on a wheelchair.
