            Race bikes are all about weight and aerodynamics, disc brakes would be a negative for both.

                Jfuentes runs a disc on his Force R, he had top end make a wider fork for it(not on the options, but can be done). Running in the mountains I would think it would be required to keep rims from overheating and popping tires?

                  what do you think cyclists did before disc brakes?

                  I've never heard of a rim overheating & resulting in a flat.

                    Racing bikes run with much higher speeds than mountain bikes and don't use disc brakes..... Disc brakes are better only in wet and muddy terrain, but are heavier ....

                        I just looked up the article I saw it in. The guy was an inexperienced rider and rode his brakes down a long steep grade. He did this many times before realizing he was building up too much heat and popping the tubes.

                          I have blown a tube at the bottom of a big hill. The tube exploded.
